About Synertec

Synertec is an ASX-listed specialist engineering and technology company delivering innovative, sustainable solutions across power, water, resources, life sciences, and manufacturing sectors. With more than 30 years of experience in high-risk, highly regulated environments, we operate at the intersection of engineering and clean technology.

Our flagship innovation, Powerhouse, is a 100% renewable microgrid system that supplies clients with on-demand green power - without fossil fuel backups. We work across the full lifecycle of engineering and technology delivery, and we’re growing a team to support the next generation of sustainable energy infrastructure.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly capable Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team. This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for the design, integration, and delivery of advanced electrical systems, with a strong focus on microgrids, power conversion, and renewable energy systems.

You will play a key role in shaping technical direction, ensuring engineering quality, and mentoring engineers across Synertec Technology and Engineering Services. While remaining hands-on where needed, the role emphasises technical leadership, system-level thinking, and oversight of complex electrical solutions.

For the right candidate, there is also an opportunity to contribute to business development, client engagement, and early-stage solution development.

About the Role:

Reporting into the General Manager - Technology and playing a critical role to the success of our Powerhouse offering, your responsibilities will include:

  • Electrical design and integration leadership
    • Lead the design of electrical systems and architectures for microgrid and distributed energy solutions, including BESS, PCS, solar PV and hybrid generation.
    • Coordinate technical integration of major equipment, including BESS, PCS/inverters, PV, transformers, load banks, switchgear, generators and microgrid controllers, including PLC and SCADA interfaces.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated energy solutions.
  • Engineering deliverables and compliance
    • Guide the preparation of technical deliverables, including specifications, design reports, SLDs, schematics, layouts, cable schedules, protection interfaces and construction work packs.
    • Ensure designs are safe, technically robust, constructable, maintainable and compliant with Australian Standards and client requirements.
    • Contribute to design standards, templates and engineering capability development.
  • Stakeholder engagement and delivery support
    • Lead technical engagement with clients, OEMs, suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Act as the client-facing technical lead in project meetings, design reviews, workshops and progress discussions.
  • Technical Leadership
    • Provide subject matter leadership in electrical engineering across project teams
    • Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring technical excellence and consistency
    • Drive continuous improvement in engineering standards, tools, and methodologies
  • Business Development Support
    • Participate in early-stage client meetings and solution development when required
    • Assist with technical input into proposals, project scoping, and concept design
    • Utilise technical writing abilities for tender submissions, technical specifications, and cost/pricing analysis

About You:

Above all, we would love like-minded and enthusiastic collaborators for whom whilst work is a job, it’s also a path to growth and professional development! For this role, we will be looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Strong experience (5 years +) in electrical engineering and power systems, ideally within renewables and with exposure to microgrids, solar, battery energy storage or hybrid systems.
  • Strong system-level design capability
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving capability and sound engineering judgement.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly regarded:
    • CPEng, RPEQ, NER or equivalent registration.
    • Experience with utility-connected BESS, remote microgrids or hybrid generation.
    • Knowledge of grid-forming inverters, islanding, black-start and microgrid control modes.
    • Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs and cybersecurity considerations.
    • Experience with containerised power systems, brownfield site integration, major hazard facilities or DNSP approvals.
    • Experience supporting proposals, cost estimates, schedules, concept designs or PV/BESS modelling.

What’s in it for you:

  • Work on the development and implementation of our world-leading energy technology product, Powerhouse.
  • Balance your work/life with our highly flexible work arrangement options!
  • Competitive Remuneration package on offer.
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Novated Leasing options available
  • Monthly in office catering and activities
  • Access to Synertec's Benefits Program
  • Collaborate with broad engineering and commercial teams
  • Build your career with Synertec with our dedicated development plans, including career growth opportunities!
  • Range of Professional Development opportunities and internal training courses available to all employees.
  • Fully confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) available to all staff.
  • Sustainability and social impact focused organisation with an Integrated globally recognised ESG framework.
