About the Role
The Accessibility Specialist is joining during a time of change to improve Telstra’s inclusive Digital Assets. The core of the role is to significantly improve Telstra’s accessibility maturity across its Digital assets, with a huge opportunity to influence everything from the Telstra’s public-facing T22 strategy to consulting on project-specific work and building capability within the group.
You will also be responsible for:
- Advocating the value of accessibility to unlock capability and capacity
- Consulting across the full lifecycle within the internal core Digital Systems Team and with Multi-disciplinary Teams to apply the standards and influence our designs and codes
- Applying analysis and subject matter expertise to media products and programs of work within a Design group, whilst participating in or leading mid-level design initiatives and projects.
- Working closely with designers, developers, PO, producers conducting assessments and advising against WCAG2.1 and accessibility best practice on multiple platforms (web, android, and iOS).
- Ensuring the team informed of the latest trends, opportunities, design patterns, and emerging technologies that might bring effective practices to how we craft and build.
- Working with missions and project teams to clearly describe issues, influence designs and provide actionable recommendations on accessibility.
- Providing world-class standards for digital channels and patterns that include rationale, usage rules, customer research and insights related to pattern and accessibility guidelines and to set the benchmark for a world-class experience across accessibility, diversity, and inclusion.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Solid technical proficiency across digital accessibility, inclusive design, and user testing framework
- Independent WCAG auditing experience on web and native mobile platforms
- Experience using assistive technology for testing such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack.
- Sound front end development, knowledge in CSS, Javascript and related technologies, HTML 5.x Symantic, WAI-ARIA, ARIA
- Exposure to accessibility API and testing methodology for accessibility
- Sound knowledge in ATAG and WCAG 2.1, PDF UIA remediation
- Sound automation script creation for testing against accessibility requirements
- Exposure to multiple UI frameworks (e.g. responsive web, native app in IOS/Android)
- Experience using Assistive Technology. Ideally, advance in one specific technology such as low vision
- Solid knowledge in Australian legal requirements for Accessibility and related regulations
- Sound knowledge in Apple and android accessibility and development of apps.
- Great EQ and ability to work with others in a constructive and collaborative nature.
