About us
The Infrastructure and Facilities Services (IFS) portfolio is part of the Resources Division, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. IFS delivers strategic campus and asset planning, environmental sustainability initiatives, development of new infrastructure, upgrading of existing assets and the maintenance of existing facilities. In addition, IFS provides a comprehensive range of campus services including student accommodation, retail facilities and property services. IFS aims to develop and operate campuses and services that support education, research, and community engagement in accordance with the priorities of the Looking Forward Strategic Plan 2020 - 2025, the supporting Estate Strategy and Environmental Sustainability Plan. In doing so IFS, aims to support a vibrant student experience and positive staff culture.

The Senior Manager, Estate Strategy is a senior member of the Infrastructure and Facilities Services unit. The role provides leadership and management in defining and planning operational and strategic infrastructure initiatives. Activating our campuses is a key focus for our university. The successful applicant will actively lead the development of masterplans and strategies to complement the University of Newcastle Looking Ahead Strategic Plan 2020-2025, leveraging and driving improved utilisation of the University’s infrastructure assets.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the University, this role will drive significant change initiatives to optimise space usage, through shared occupancy models, enabling the consolidation of assets to reduce building and operating costs and contribute to emissions reduction targets.
This role will also lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline and modernise processes, reporting, systems, and tools for the estate strategy and planning function, enabling the team to be future-focused, agile, and responsive to our customers.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to work with a dynamic team and lead large scale projects to enhance the campus environment for staff and students of the University.
How will you inspire us?
The essential criteria for success include:
- Qualifications and extensive experience in relevant areas (such as strategy and planning, change management, architecture, business, property development) and extensive leadership experience in strategic development planning and optimisation of physical facilities in a large/complex organisation; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Detailed knowledge and experience in the conduct of business cases and the preparation of project briefs.
- Experience in driving strategic change initiatives and knowledge in how to integrate change management with project management using PROSCI methodology.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including demonstrated capacity to build key stakeholder networks, an inter-disciplinary way of working and maintain confidentiality.
- High-level project management and organisational skills including the ability to analyse complex issues and problems, develop feasible solutions, and undertake the design, management and delivery of multiple concurrent complex projects.
- Demonstrated capacity to show initiative, think innovatively and act strategically to identify solutions.
- Proven resource, budget and people management skills including demonstrated ability to build effective teams and develop and mentor staff.

What we offer
This position will be offered as a HEW 9, continuing position.
The remuneration range will from $125,767 - $134,749 plus 17 % superannuation and leave loading.
