About the Role

The Senior Electrical Engineer provides hands-on technical leadership in the design, review, and delivery of electrical systems for Zenith’s projects. This role is crucial to ensuring that electrical solutions are safe, compliant, reliable, and commercially viable throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager and collaborating closely with project managers, engineers, construction teams, and external stakeholders, the Senior Electrical Engineer supports projects from the initial concept and design phase through to commissioning, handover, and ongoing operational support.

Additionally, this role contributes to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and involves mentoring junior engineers within the team.

Key responsibilities will include.

  • Lead electrical design and technical reviews for high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) power systems, including thermal and renewable generation, distribution, protection, and control.
  • Develop and review single-line diagrams, load calculations, protection philosophies, and design reports.
  • Ensure vendor and OEM documentation complies with project standards.
  • Provide input on equipment selection, including switchgear, transformers, and generators.
  • Support project managers in identifying technical risks and optimising designs.
  • Address technical queries from clients and subcontractors during various project phases.
  • Help develop the scope of work packages for consultants and contractors.
  • Offer engineering support for fault investigations and improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.

About You

As the Senior Electrical Engineer, you will bring the following experience, knowledge, and skills to the role.

  • 6 years of experience in electrical engineering across industrial, mining, power generation, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Proven success in delivering medium to large-scale power generation and/or distribution projects.
  • Strong expertise in high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical systems, switchgear, transformers, protection relays and electrical safety practices.
  • Experience from design through construction and commissioning, including exposure to operational environments and brownfield modifications.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical leadership.
  • Familiarity with low-voltage motors and drives.
  • Ability to balance engineering quality with commercial and scheduling needs.
  • Skilled in managing technical risk and approving acceptance testing for electrical equipment.
  • Strong grasp of Australian Standards for Electrical Installations (AS 2067, AS 3000, AS 3008, AS 3007, AS 5033
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Construction experience in High/Medium Voltage switchgears & substations, knowledge of Protection & Relay programming and Network Communication architecture is desirable.
