Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.
We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.
We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The opportunity
The purpose of the role is for managing the uplift in safe data practices across the enterprise though leadership of Data Governance strategy, frameworks and standards and implementation of policies and processes to ensure successful implementation across the cluster.
You will
- Proactively contribute towards the development of Data Governance Strategy and Roadmap
- Identify and establish standards and data governance frameworks to enable data democratisation for safe and secure access to data and to mitigate re-identification risks in line with privacy and regulatory obligations
- Establish roles and responsibilities for, and identify, data owners, stewards and custodians, across the cluster.
- Establish and manage enterprise Data Governance forums. workgroups and communities of practice
- Embed tools and processes required to achieve high data quality standards as per the Data Governance framework, in close collaboration with the data management team
- Partner with peer teams on the development of Conceptual Data Model to underpin operating model and processes required to embed Data Governance
- Collaborate and contribute towards establishment of an enterprise data literacy program to increase awareness and compliance with Data Governance processes and standards
- Partner with Data Engineering team and Enterprise Leads to define and implement roadmap to successfully embed governance around data management, curation and protection and actively collaborate in implementation of tools and processes required to meet these standards
- Create, update and document policies relevant to data governance and management to protect data.
- Engage, consult and collaborate with industry bodies and 3rd parties to increase access to public data in a secure way.
- Partner with legal to create and execute data sharing agreement with whole of government and individual NSW government agencies.

About You
You’re a collaborative and talented leader of people with a strong background in data governance and management. You demonstrate stakeholder engagement expertise, decisiveness, and the drive to get things done. Engaging and energetic, you excel in communication and presentation and have proven experience in leading teams in a complex customer centric environment.
Essential requirements
- Experience leading in a matrix environment, preferably using Agile principles with an exceptional ability to communicate and engage at all levels.
- Expert level knowledge and experience implementing Data Governance capability, procedures and policy in a complex enterprise.
- Demonstrated experience in building data literacy in large organisations.
- Experience with implementing data governance and management tools.
- Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK model.
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
