About the team
The Infrastructure and Place (IP) division is in the process of delivering an ambitious and once-in-a generation multi-billion program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built. Our work can entail project management and assurance, commercial management, engineering and technical advisory and precinct renewal and place making.
The opportunity
Reporting to our Rail Project Directors, we have opportunities for Project Managers that focus on three key areas:
- Rolling stock - Managing the upgrade, acceptance, commissioning and testing of rolling stock for suburban, intercity and region trains including upgrades of ‘in cab’ control technology.
- Rail Infrastructure - Engaging with projects in design, engineering and delivery, developing relationships with delivery teams, understand best practise, drive innovation and efficiencies across Rail/Civil projects
- Digital Systems - Part of the More Trains, More Services program to replace current signalling and train control technology with modern, internationally proven, intelligent systems. It will help improve reliability, increase capacity and enhance customer experience on Sydney’s railways
The TfNSW Rail Delivery team provides high-level professional guidance for the delivery of major transport infrastructure and rail asset projects. The role undertakes and drives project assessments, project delivery processes and operations across multiple projects, ensuring compliance with a range of commercial, planning and environmental requirements for large, regional transport infrastructure projects, including working within a project management framework that ensures projects are delivered to best practice project, contract and asset management standards that are commercially sound to the satisfaction of key stakeholders our customers and the community.
The function is essential to the successful procurement and delivery of a number of projects and productive, collaborative relationships with contractors, stakeholders and projects across Sydney and regional New South Wales.
These opportunities are based in Sydney, and may involve travelling to site.
What you will be involved in
You will manage a portfolio of work or projects to ensure projects are delivered efficiently with Engineering and construction best-practise employed at all stages of the project lifecycle. You will project manage elements of construction and engineering to deliver projects that satisfy community and customer needs, are compatible with relevant environmental approvals and with any applicable legislation and policy requirements ensuring each key project phase is delivered to the agreed standards, on time and within allocated budgets.
Responsibility will be held for ensuring that infrastructure projects are designed and delivered using sustainable, innovative and global best practise within your relevant package/project/contracts to ensure appropriate outcomes, managing the coordination of contracted work to enable the best use of Transport for NSW resources and contracted resources. It is essential you are familiar with on-site project delivery, its dynamic environment and are able to build productive relationships with all parties involved in the process

About you
You will be an experienced construction Project Manager or Senior Engineer with 10+ years of experience of project delivery, ideally through delivery readiness, tender, delivery, commissioning and close out, comfortable with the responsibility that comes with being a TfNSW project representative.
It is essential you have strong infrastructure project and planning expertise with a record of success in developing and delivering infrastructure projects ideally with exposure to the delivery readiness and construction phases with demonstrable project management skills and a proven record of delivery management across multiple concurrent projects (or packages of work) in a complex and constrained environment.
You will possess demonstrated ability to build and sustain cohesive and effective relationships, maximising performance at an individual and team level through a transformational period. Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Project Management are essential.
