Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.
We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.
We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The Division
The Regional and Outer Metropolitan division is focused on understanding the particular needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure.
The opportunity
In this newly created role, the primary purpose of the Project Manager is to lead regional engagement with local councils for disaster recovery arrangements under the NSW Disaster Assistance Guidelines. This role will work closely with Local Government Authorities, providing financial and technical assistance to councils to restore essential public assets that are damaged as a direct result of an eligible disaster. You will be responsible for end to end project management from concept identification to delivery and closure. You will provide leadership and direction to your team and effectively manage risk and issues, ensure agreed timeframes; quality, scope and budget are met.
What you will be involved in
The successful candidate will be responsible keeping abreast of matters affecting Transport for NSW from both internal and external sources from a strategic perspective. Additionally, this role will be accountable for;
- Ensure local councils understand the NSW Disaster Assistance Guidelines and requirements in obtaining financial assistance to restore essential public assets.
- Lead and provide guidance and support for local councils in obtaining financial assistance for eligible emergency and reconstruction works.
- Facilitate technical engineering support for local councils in assessing and determining emergency and reconstruction works.
- Lead the regional administration of the claims process for council reimbursement of eligible expenditure on emergency and reconstruction works.
- Contribute to Agency responsibility for financial management, audit and reporting of claims to ensure that the Agency is fully reimbursed by Resilience NSW for council claims.
About you
As the Project Manager you will have significant demonstrated experience of the technical aspects of materials, equipment and techniques used in road and bridge construction and maintenance. You will be confident in your problem solving skills and able to build rapport easily with service providers allowing you to drive real and tangible. The Project Manager will possess people management experience and will thrive on nurturing the progress and development of direct reports.
In addition to the above, extensive experience in managing the development and construction of road and bridge projects, including building constructive and effective working relationship with local government.
You need to have a four-year civil engineering degree from an Australian University or equivalent overseas qualification and relevant professional experience.
