Minimum qualifications:
- 13 years of experience in Public Policy within a government, industry, or civil society organization.
- Experience with the Google and/or YouTube product in APAC within the tech industry
- Ability to speak and write in English fluently.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience shaping policy on issues relevant to YouTube’s business operations.
- Ability to speak and write in Japanese and additional APAC languages fluently.
- Knowledge of issues affecting YouTube’s business operations and interests in the India political context.

About the job
As a member of Google's Public Policy team, you help shape various product and issue agendas with policy makers inside and outside government. In addition, you will help advise our internal teams on the public policy implications of their products, working with a closely coordinated and cross-functional global team. The role requires significant experience either working with or in government, politics or a regulatory agency as well as an ability to grasp complex technical and policy issues.
As the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Manager at YouTube in Asia Pacific (APAC), you will be an expert on YouTube’s products and business and lead external communication on public policy priorities, developing and coordinating strategies relating to YouTube’s issues and interests in the APAC political context. You will be knowledgeable about the policy environment affecting YouTube’s business operations in the country and share that knowledge with stakeholders within YouTube, including Trust and Safety, Legal, PR and Marketing. You will work in a cross-functional way to develop and implement public policy strategies. Reporting to the APAC Director at YouTube, you will work closely with the Google Government Affairs and Public Policy team throughout the region. You will need excellent analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing, an aptitude for learning, and the discipline to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.

The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.
Responsibilities
- Provide coverage on public policy and government affairs issues for Australia and New Zealand.
- Support the Asia Pacific (APAC) Public Policy Director for YouTube by developing public policy campaigns and leading engagement with a range of policymakers and issues across APAC.
- Be a key conduit to leadership, GAPP and other cross functional teams in San Bruno, Mountain View, and Washington D.C.
- Monitor and assess impact of issues affecting YouTube’s business operations and interests in the APAC political context.
- Work with the GAPP, Press, and Marketing teams to implement YouTube campaigns and activities to inform policymakers.
