Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.
We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.
We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

About the Team
The Regional and Outer Metropolitan division is focused on understanding the particular needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure.
The Network and Assets function delivers a range of infrastructure projects and maintenance programs that ensure safe, efficient, customer focused project and program delivery.
The Opportunities
The Senior Project Engineers are responsible for supporting the Works Manager, supervising the delivery of projects and using a mix of in house and contract partners. The role will involve line management accountability for allocated teams, to ensure the successful delivery and control of projects, people management and leadership of teams as well as managing and supervising contracts.
The team delivers road and bridge maintenance projects across rural and regional NSW, supported by extensive industry and contract partnerships as well as local governments, to help deliver core Transport objectives aligned to changing projects and programs of work.
The roles are regionally based, and there will be some variation of projects based on roads, bridges and contractor management.
The Bridge team undertakes a diverse range of bridge and large culvert maintenance and construction activities, across a variety of urban and remote locations which extend from the Blue Mountains to the borders with QLD, SA and VIC. Your project portfolio could include upgrading a heritage-listed timber truss bridge, a complex structural bridge bearing replacement, and the construction of a new reinforced concrete culvert structure.
The Senior Project Engineer contributes towards the following day to day responsibilities:
- Involved in the monitoring the projects in your control, as well as managing cost, timelines and budget
- Reporting and financial management and accruals
- Resourcing, organising, project scheduling and procurement management
- Problem solving and reviewing the effectiveness of project progress and outcomes

About You
Demonstrated experience in project delivery across maintenance, reconstruction and construction activities and proven understanding and high level of breadth and depth in people leadership and management, ideally, through direct and contract delivery methods of large construction projects. Strong and well developed communication skills with ability to build and maintain relationships with project stakeholders. Proven industry experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams across multiple work activities and project delivery. Relevant engineering degree, preferable road and bridge projects experience, local government and Tier 1 or Tier 2 environments. Proven experience in project management and project governance principles.
For the bridge role, previous experience working on complex bridge rehabilitation or construction projects, along with an awareness of timber truss structures, would be desirable.
The successful candidates will be required to live within the districts they are appointed to. For the bridge role, regular travel within the West region would be required, including a willingness to work away from home when required to manage distant projects.

Salary and Benefits
- Senior Project Engineer – Engineer Grade 3 - $128,012 - $139,896 per annum plus superannuation and leave loading
