The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the contractor for construction, which began in early 2018 following planning assessment.
About the Project
The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:
- Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
- Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
- Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
- Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
- Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

The Position:
The Digital Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing ongoing digital modelling assistance to the delivery team as well as also managing the as-built process (transfer, tracking & checking of digital files.
In addition to the above the key responsibilities of this role are:
- Work with construction/survey teams to agree & define SoW for critical areas where BIM can add value. This can include 3D models, 4D sequences, Quantification or Coordination exercises.
- Management of an off-shore BIM consultant, for items defined above
- Definition of contractual BIM requirements / BIM SoW for future sub-contractors/fabricators
- Additional guidance to subcontractors on BIM related matters where required
- Review of subcontractors fabrication models & ensure coordination at interfaces
- Review / redlining of subcontractors shop drawings within Bluebeam
- Development of strategy for delivering As-Built documentation and associated digital data
- Presentations: clearly present issues within the model, and facilitate discussion between construction & design
About you:
- Degree in engineering/architecture
- Extensive experience on large infrastructure projects.
- General understanding of design/engineering/construction
- Understanding of the capabilities/outputs of other BIM software packages utilised by subcontractors e.g Tekla, Civil3D, Allplan, Synchro
- Understanding of the capabilities/outputs of Revit Dynamo
- Understanding of the Project wise Common Data Environment, for Microstation and AutoCad (As-Built packages)
- Ability/experience working with high level of detail models, within the environments below:
- Revit
- Navisworks (Coordination, QTO, and 4D)
- Revizto
- Bluebeam Studio
