You could be working on exciting projects such as Mechanical Vapor Recompression, Electric Calcination or how Digital Twins will be deployed for online real-time process optimisation.
We are pleased to be able to offer this global opportunity to join the Process Simulation & Equipment Development Team within the Continuous Improvement Centre of Excellence (CI CoE) as a Process Modelling Engineer, based at any one of our global alumina refineries.
You will be providing specialist services and advice to improve the performance and reliability of processes and equipment in Alcoa’s global operations through the application of computational modelling. You could see yourself working on projects for Refining, Mining or Smelting in this role!
Some of your core activities include:
Being recognised as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing specialist mathematical modelling services and contributing to projects across global operating locations in your area of process modelling expertise.
Determining requirements for, developing, validating and deploying process models and Digital Twins into operations, along with model interfaces, visualisations and supporting documentation.
Using process models to undertake equipment performance evaluation and process improvement studies
Providing coaching and training to model end-users at operating locations and junior modelling staff within the CoE modelling team in the development and use of process models.
Ensuring projects and services are delivered on-schedule, to customer satisfaction, within budget constraints and in compliance with Alcoa project management protocols.
Creating and maintaining effective networks with internal customers, other engineers and external organisations.
About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Bachelor degree qualifications in Chemical Engineering
Consolidated experience in delivery of process modelling services in alumina refining or other relevant industry, such as resources, energy or manufacturing.
Expertise in the use of process modelling software such as Aspen Engineering Suite (Aspen Custom Modeller, Aspen Plus and Hysys), MATLAB or similar tools.
Programming skills e.g., Fortran, Python, VBA and knowledge of OLE automation is an advantage.
Excellent organisational skills, project delivery experience.
Ideally, we are looking for someone who is not afraid to step up as a leader in your area of expertise.

For this role, we are able to consider the option of having you based at any of our refineries globally in Australia (Kwinana, Pinjarra, Wagerup), Brazil (São Luís, Poços de Caldas) or Spain (San Ciprián). This is subject to your working rights for the relevant region.
