Amazon Web Services is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect for our VMware Cloud on AWS Team. The role of the AWS Solutions Architect is to help our customers achieve their business outcomes and objectives through hybrid Cloud adoption and AWS native Cloud services.
You will need to translate the customer objectives around transformation into a deliverable architecture, upon which to lead and guide architecture teams to validate and design for our customer success.
We are looking for a person with a passion for driving real Enterprise transformation through the latest Cloud technology and have extensive experience with vSphere based hybrid cloud workloads.

VMware Cloud on AWS is an integrated cloud offering jointly developed by AWS and VMware delivering a highly scalable, secure and innovative service that allows organizations to seamlessly migrate and extend their on-premises VMware vSphere-based environments to the AWS Cloud running on next-generation Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) bare metal infrastructure. VMware Cloud on AWS allows customers to run VMware's Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) stack and leverage VMware's virtualization and management software to seamlessly deploy and manage VMware workloads across their on-premises and VMware Cloud on AWS environments.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for experienced and motivated technical AWS and VMware experts specializing in VMware Cloud on AWS to join the Specialist Solutions Architect team.
The ideal candidate will have a technical knowledge of and hands-on experience with VMware technologies such as ESXi, NSX, and vSAN, a strong understanding of architecture and cloud computing, and a deep understanding of AWS services such as Amazon EC2, VPC, and DirectConnect. In this role, you will need to be technically capable and credible with both AWS and VMware as well as effective in shaping the customer and solutions-focused skills of your team.
As a trusted customer advocate, you'll need to understand best practices around advanced AWS and VMware solutions. Working very closely with the VMC on AWS specialist sellers you will build and architect solutions for a broad range of customer use cases such as hybrid architectures, migration and application modernization initiatives. The ability to connect technology with measurable business value is critical and you should have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, products, and technical challenges. Key job responsibilities
- Work directly with strategic customers to accelerate their challenging projects and recommend best-practice architectures in line with their long-term business outcomes.
- Build lasting technical relationships with customers up to the C-suite and operate as their trusted advisor. The best interests of the customer will shape the guidance you provide.
- Forge ongoing relationships with the customer based upon credibility delivered through the technical solutions.
- Share a two-way dialogue on the voice of the customer to inform and improve the roadmap of AWS features.
- Participate in the creation and sharing of best practices, technical content and new reference architectures (e.g. white papers, code samples, blog posts).
- Evangelize and educate about AWS and VMware technology (e.g. through workshops, user groups, meetups, public speaking, online videos or conferences).
- Contribute to the growth of the Specialist Solutions Architecture organization by interviewing candidates and having a voice in hiring decisions.
- You will also be helping others develop new skills by mentoring team members and knowledge sharing Develop areas of depth in technical domains relevant to your customer’s outcomes and your interests.
A day in the life
Working together with the sales counterpart you will help our new and existing customers on their cloud journey with VMC on AWS. Bringing together your business and technical acumen to understand challenges and help them succeed and accelerate into AWS.
You will deliver immersion days, proof of concepts and drive customer and AWS teams to understand the value and technical integration of VMC.
About the team
The ANZ VMware on AWS team has experienced extremely high growth in 2021 and we are looking to expand for 2022. With a mix of enterprise and SMB customers we are growing in ANZ and across APJ. You will be joining an existing team of sellers, SA's and BDM's in the ANZ region.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience consulting on, managing and/or deploying VMware technologies, with hands-on configuration and building experience
- Broad experience with related technologies including data centre networks and network topologies, software architecture and experience building complex software systems
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges
- Ability to gain credibility and build relationships with all levels in an organization, from technical experts to executive
- Proven ability to collaborate and lead across internal and external organizations and virtual teams
- Ability to understand complex business challenges and translate them into appropriate technical solutions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in computer science, engineering or mathematics or equivalent experience
- Previous experience consulting on, managing and/or deploying AWS technologies
- DevOps experience with AWS and/or VMware technologies
- Related industry certification such as; AWS Solutions Architecture Certification (Associate or Professional) or VMware professional level certification (VCP, VCIX, VCDX), Open Group Enterprise Architecture Certification
- Proven experience in a consultative technical sales or professional services with a track record of successful engagements with enterprise customers
