Job Description
Our Business Development activities are critical to supporting Abcam’s long-term growth and partnership strategy and we are seeking a Director of Business Development, EMEA to support the expansion of our licensing and strategic partnerships in Europe.
Reporting into the Senior Director of Business Development, Courtney Nicholson, the Director of Business Development – EMEA, will be a key member of the Business Development team supporting the development and execution of the long-term licensing and commercial partnership strategy at Abcam.
Working across the organization, we aim to position the full scope of Abcam’s technology platforms and expertise to deliver strategic commercial partnerships and capture downstream revenue opportunities within the Commercial research, Pharmaceutical, and Diagnostics industry segments. Most importantly, we are working together with these partners to take their discoveries beyond research and into development of products that will help patients across the globe.
This is an exciting opportunity to help identify, build and expand commercial licensing partnerships that will drive forward Abcam’s goal of being a leading partner to Biopharma. In driving forward our licensing and commercial partnerships in EMEA, you will deliver high value relationships and licensing agreements that will deliver revenue expansion and increased value creation for Abcam and their customers, through commercial partnerships.
- Identifying, developing and supporting high-value opportunities and licensing agreements for commercial development programmes (commercial RUO, CDx, Dx or Therapeutic), using products and services from across the Abcam organisation to deliver enhanced value to our partners
- Interim activity: Guide and mentor Abcam’s in-licensing team on the execution of agreements and activities that supports Abcam’s portfolio and technology development needs. This activity will be for a period of 9-12 months as maternity cover
- Prospect for leads and identify new opportunities to develop business relationships at strategic accounts with a special focus on high potential commercial licensing opportunities, primarily focused on Companion Diagnostic programmes
- Work with Abcam sales teams in the identification and qualification of commercial licensing and strategic partnership opportunities within their customer base, to maximise the potential of growth in licensing agreements for Abcam’s product portfolio
- Support the execution of Abcam’s strategy to be a leading partner to Biopharma through market awareness and insights that can be delivered back into the organisation for product and service development to enhance Abcam’s offering into the Life Sciences market
- Working with the Snr Director of Business Development to input on the evolution of the commercial partnership and licensing strategy at Abcam
- Assess and identify growth opportunities by using fact-based analysis, market trends, competitive intelligence, customer needs analysis, technology advancements, policy & regulation changes, etc
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in scientific field, preferred majors in molecular biology or biotechnology.
- Proven experience (7+ years) in Strategic account partnering or Business Development in IVD or Pharma/biotech industrial fields. Experience in Commercial licensing or M&A, also advantageous
- Experience drafting and negotiating licensing term sheets, contract negotiation and other agreements (CDA, MTA, co-development, etc)
- Ability to understand and use financial models to make recommendations or decisions on commercial terms and negotiations
