Job Description

Here at Abcam, we strive to have the best quality products for our customers and continue to deliver the products they need to complete their missions. Our validation and technical quality team play an important part in this process and have a key role in solving any customer product quality queries. This new scientist role will be part of that team and is an opportunity to collaborate with customers and stakeholders across the business.

The VTQ team receives enquiries from external sources (academic and industrial customers along with collaborators and companies that OEM our products) as well as from internal labs and commercial teams sources. As a member of our team, you will design experiments to conduct and facilitate high level root-cause analysis on global product quality incidents, at both the incident level and from a strategic program-level scale, requiring the ability to switch between tactical and strategic thinking.

Each team member will spend 1-week per month monitoring the Quality Inbox email address for any time-sensitive enquiries (which may need an initial triage), and further assessment & assignment across team members for extended investigation.

This role is based in our Cambridge office and it involves daily interaction around the Abcam global network, including the occasional flexibility for off-hours calls with the US and China.

This position has significant professional growth opportunities to gain seniority within Abcam, and provides exposure to other departments within the Company, including Senior Leadership interactions and will be of interest to skilled scientists who to move away from bench science toward more corporate or commercial scientific roles.

This role requires collaboration and decisiveness; experimental design skills and data analysis, presentation skills and line manager potential.

You will have a PhD in an area of science related to the products sold by Abcam (Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular biology or Immunology) and some industrial experience outside of academia. You will have commercial experience in validation/characterization/cell sciences in an areas that aligns to some of the platform categories in which Abcam publishes products; antibodies, cell lines, protein sciences, immunoassays, kits and reagents. This should include analyzing data from Western Blot, IHC, ICC, IP, ELISA and Flow experiments to determine the specificity of tested products.

You have a thorough understanding of validation and quality control testing of antibodies including experimental design and the ability to compare protocols and troubleshoot experimental design. You are able to manage multiple projects and the desire to work as a bridge between scientific labs and commercial teams. It goes without saying that you will be comfortable with new software tools and new platforms.

If this sounds like you and you’d like to be a part of a fast-paced, growing business with the vision to become the most influential company and best-loved brand in life sciences, please apply now!
