Job Description
Join Abcam’s Digital Team as Environment Manager to manage our non-Production environments and design our environment strategy for the effective delivery of multiple concurrent projects and workstreams across a broad and diverse array of systems.
This is a great opportunity to optimise environments and resources whilst ensuring that all programmes of work have the test environments that they need to deliver their changes from development through all testing phases and into Production.
You will work with technical and business teams to understand their environment requirements and plan the environment usage roadmap.
Reporting to the Director Digital Platform, you will work with internal and external partners to provision environments and manage the refreshes and patching of all non-Production environments and be responsible for ensuring that data in those environments adheres to all necessary regulations. You will also be responsible for the Configuration Management Database, ensuring that all digital assets are captured in the ServiceNow CMDB and that all relationships between assets are configured and maintained. You will work with our Platform and Infrastructure teams to ensure automated cataloguing of on-premise and cloud assets globally.
Key Roles & responsibilities:
- Engage and support delivery teams and maintenance teams to meet their environment requirements
- Build and maintain the environment strategy
- Deliver and maintain all non-Production environments
- Document environments and the alignment of all associated components
- Plan and manage the refresh of environments, including access control and deployment of software builds for testing and test data.
- Capacity management of all systems across all environments based on their usage
- Provide technical consultancy on environments and software deployment
- Have an in depth understanding of underlying infrastructure, technologies and integrations
- Support continuous improvement initiatives (keep abreast of industry trends, implement best practice, evaluate new tools and techniques, automate processes, upgrade underlying technologies)
- Design, implement and maintain the CMDB
- Ensure CMDB relationships are configured and maintained
- Promote CMDB process and best practice
- Ensure environment documentation is always maintained and up to date and updates shared with stakeholders
Qualifications
- Experience of environment management including environment provisioning, refreshing and consolidation
- Experience of IT infrastructure and architecture
- Experience of the software and system lifecycle and programme management
- Experience of project management, tools and methodologies
- Understanding of industry standard software and databases, eg, SQL Server
- You will have a solid understanding of CMDB and how this adds business value
- Experience of ServiceNow, particularly the CMDB and Service Management components is highly advantageous.
- Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence
- You should be highly organised and document and track everything
- Understanding of software and database deployment methods
- Experience of working with a broad array for interrelated systems including SaaS, PaaS and on-Premise
- Experience with managing environment roadmaps
- Able to take technical concepts and processes and communicate these to non-technical audiences.
- Experience with managing budgets and optimising costs
- Used to liaising with many cross functional teams to ensure that all requirements and considered when providing solutions.
