Job Description

As the lead for business intelligence & analytics you lead a small team that owns and develops the analytical capabilities of abcam. This includes to establish, enhance, and govern the analytical capabilities across all business functions in order to generate insights that inform and accelerate business decisions.

Your team owns and manages the most influential board level dashboards and the reporting solution they run on. In collaboration with analysts worldwide and the data engineering and advanced analytics teams you transform data into business value.

We are a part of Data & Analytics (D&A) within abcam’s Digital department who act as innovation incubator, enabling analysts to build solutions that enhance data informed decisions. The knowledge, tools and mindset we provide allow abcam to leverage data as competitive advantage and drive business success.

Business Intelligence & Analytics is a new team forming the centre of excellence for analytics and reporting. We deliver reporting standards, trainings and best practices to the community of abcam analysts. Collectively we execute our data & analytics strategy and shape the future of analytics.

Cross-functional analytics capability (analytics network)

  • Provide training program for the use of the reporting solution

  • Provide support for analysts who build reports within the reporting solution

  • Provide a knowledge exchange platform for analysts and data citizens

  • Organize regular events to showcase analytics and build a data driven mindset

Reporting governance

  • Establish standardized definitions and ownership for metrics and dimensions

  • Establish ownership for dashboards

  • Provide a company-wide catalogue of metrics and dimensions

  • Own and govern the dashboard lifecycle process

  • Prioritize the backlog of data pipelines (implemented by data engineering)

Ownership of centrally managed dashboards

  • Deliver and evolve senior management reporting (via direct C-Level collaboration)

  • Ensure availability, accuracy and reliability of senior management reporting

  • Train and consult senior management on senior management reports

Ownership of reporting solution

  • Cost effective management of the reporting solution (budget responsibility)

  • Manage user licenses incl. onboarding and offboarding analysts

  • Manage migration programs for transitioning between reporting solutions

Leadership & Influencing

  • Lead a small team and taking care of their individual development and performance

  • Influence across the organisation including influencing upwards and across reporting lines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field

  • Relevant masters degree would be advantageous

  • At least 5 years of experience in leading a business intelligence, reporting or analytics team

  • At least 10 years of experience with data modelling and visualization techniques

  • Proficiency in report generation using Tableau, PowerBI or similar tools

  • Proficiency using SQL, DAX or other query languages

  • Proficiency in Python is a plus

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of delivering insights and recommendations that drive business value

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Experience managing a small team
