Job Description

A leading commercial finance role within Abcam, partnering Digital and HR – functions that cover the activities of Abcam Group.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Be the finance specialist partnering alongside Digital and HR teams sitting within Business leadership teams for both functions
  • Within HR, look at Business wide impacts such as Talent and provide financial expertise
  • Work cross functionally to bring insight along with other Commercial Finance leads and ensure accountability and actions are committed to within the Business teams
  • For any in function investments, ensure thorough business cases (including benefits and returns) are produced and follow investment appraisal processes
  • For Digitally led programmes ensure the benefits are tracked against business case and commitments made for target setting
  • Own and lead annual budgeting and regular risks and opportunities identified for Digital and HR and communicate to central team
  • Own monthly performance process for Digital and HR to ensure delivery of targets, where any deviations to and owned and managed
  • For areas requiring technical accounting judgements, collaborate with technical teams, ensuring any papers are succinctly written to cover accounting judgements, sufficient for auditing
  • Manage a team of FBP and analyst, ensuring regular reviews to give direction and support, as well as working on development plans


You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) with a professional qualification and have previous experience working in a Commercial Finance environment. You will need the ability to work alongside, build trusted relationships with and influence/challenge senior members of staff, with particular reference to Exec and VP level. You should also possess strong commercial acumen and the ability to move between the detail and the bigger picture to drive strong decision-making. Suitable candidates will also have experience leading teams.
