Job Description
Abcam is building a new KO cell line development unit, with the goal of building high quality physiologically relevant cellular models for various research areas i.e. neurology, immunology, oncology, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and epigenetics. This department will bring together over 20 scientists with various expertise in cell biology, cell editing and cell line production. We are looking for an individual to help us deliver this initiative.
Position Overview
As a Research Associate on our Cell Line Expansion team, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining cell lines in culture at scale. Collaborating with a dynamic and agile team, you will contribute to process optimization, including basic cell culture and some automation, to support the generation of up to 300 genetically modified cell lines per month in collaboration with our cell engineering team.
Responsibilities:
- Perform mammalian cell culture, encompassing both adherent and suspension cell lines, to produce products supporting customer needs and antibody validation.
- Assist in optimizing the end-to-end process for cell line generation at scale, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
- Perform quality control testing for each cell line, including mycoplasma testing and post bank revival test.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for cultures
- Abide by laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and keep accurate Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs) and lab book entries
- Train and operate automation equipment for the labeling and storage of finished goods, contributing to streamlined processes.
- Provide support to the cell lines team and pipeline in various projects as required, ensuring project goals are met efficiently.
Qualifications
You will have a degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field and some practical experience in working with mammalian cell lines or showcase a quick learning ability for cell culture techniques along with a willingness to learn.
You will possess excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration within a dynamic team and strong record-keeping abilities are crucial to ensure compliance standards. You will be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and be able to contribute to multiple projects.
