B35 Senior Manager, Product Development - Strategic Planning & Run
Global Commercial Services (GCS) at American Express is the global leader in providing payments solutions for small, medium, and large businesses. The Business Financing, Payments, and Digital Experiences (BFPD) team sits within GCS and is focused on creating products that are the best choice for our customers.
The Virtual Payments and Travel team within BFPD owns a suite of virtual card capabilities and central bill products that give our commercial customers enhanced security, control, and enriched data for their business payments. We are essential to our commercial clients and Amex, generating more than $17 billion in charge volume annually for GCS.
Our Business Travel Account (BTA) Strategic Planning & Run (SPAR) Team is responsible for working with our stakeholders; Product Management, Travel Partnerships and Account Development teams, to drive the strategic elements of our backlog from business needs through to the developmental build cycle, as well as ensuring the robustness of our existing platform. We work closely with Technologies to create a vision for the platforms and capabilities that underpin our product whilst working alongside the Product Development organisation to deliver best in class solutions.
As part of our team, the Senior Manager, Product Development, will play a key role in the delivery of our roadmap and supporting our business partners and stakeholders as we transform the Business Travel Account (BTA).
This position will work closely with the other Senior Manager and Senior Business Architect on the team to:
- Lead on solutions forum activity, where we translate a broad set of business needs into a planned set of capabilities & features which delivers on outcomes and key OKRs for the programme
- Ensure readiness and prioritisation of our backlog for Agile development cycle whilst collaborating with our Tech and PO colleagues for BTA
- Act as project support or coordinator where BTA SME knowledge is required to ensure the success of specific Compliance or Partnership projects
- Create and maintain relevant collateral to support our stakeholders
- Identify opportunities and provide input on vision, strategy, roadmap, and features being developed by BTA Product Development teams
We are looking for a colleague who can work pragmatically within real-world constraints and solve business and process challenges within a cross-functional, collaborative work environment. The position will report to the Director – BTA SPAR team
The team member will be based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, UK.

Required skills
- Experience of leading programmes of work in an environment which requires a high degree of stakeholder coordination and alignment
- Effectively manage priorities, deliverables, and timelines with little need for escalation
- Experience working across a number of teams to diagnose issues, identify needs and establish solutions to address OKRs
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations
- Demonstrate a broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes, and capabilities in GCS
- Comfortable with change in priorities and shaping outcomes
- A knowledge of the business travel industry with an understanding of the travel distribution ecosystem, esp. Travel Management Companies, Global Distribution Systems, Online Booking Platforms an advantage
