We are looking to hire a Senior Manager of Global Insights & Strategy within the Global Commercial Services (GCS) International division at American Express. GCS is the global leader in providing payments, expense management, and financing solutions for businesses. The GCS The GCS Global Office of Strategic Revenue is charged with defining the long-term B2B objectives, setting businesses priorities, and driving growth for Small, Medium Enterprises (SME) and Large, Global Enterprises (L&G) by partnering with local market teams. This team works closely centrally and locally with American Express’s merchant and network businesses to execute the aforementioned.
GCS employs more than 2,500 colleagues, located in more than 25 offices around the world.
This role will centrally own global analytics capabilities around market & payment trend insights for L&G and SME segments and to establish and develop strategy rooted in data rationale. This role will also serve as a centralized representation of the GCS business to engage with our key stakeholders in GCS as well as Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) to define prioritization of needs based on market insights and build a consolidated business case when required. This individual will report to the Director of Global Strategy & Execution in providing important awareness around market nuances, payment systems, emerging trends and players.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and develop global strategy based on market insights to identify opportunities to maximize our B2B volumes profitably
- Analyze individual market payment systems, nuances and metrics to determine drivers generating momentum and key pain points hindering growth to provide strategic direction to the GCS and GMNS business as well as key partners (i.e. Product, Marketing, Pricing)
- Serve as a centralised representation of the GCS business to engage with key partners (i.e. GMNS, Product, Marketing, Risk) to define prioritisation of needs & build a consolidated business case for funding asks when required
- Develop presentations and points of view summaries as required to support enhanced decision making, telling a data driven narrative, presenting analysis of factual baselined data and turning data into focused management information
- Work in close collaboration with B2B Marketing teams to provide & present actionable insights to help drive marketing opportunities
- Enable the team to challenge metrics and targets with the help of external benchmarking data
- Critically analyze prioritization efforts across net-new, cross-sell, and cross-market sales expansion opportunities
- Work in close partnership with the Data Analytics team to develop innovative, customized and automated business insights solutions in the long term

- External perspective/good understanding of payment systems, competitive landscape & emerging technologies
- Extensive experience in the Commercial/B2B space essential
- Outstanding analytical and strategic skill set, with proven ability to synthesize complex inputs into clear recommendations
- The ability to thrive in fast-paced environments while being flexible and able to handle rapidly changing scenarios; someone who sees ‘ambiguity’ as an opportunity rather than a hurdle
- Strong appreciation for the strategy, underpinned with prior experience in delivering strategic projects
- Knowledge of SQL, databases, and basic automation techniques (e.g., dashboards, automating custom reports, materializing tables)
- Fluency with visualization tools (Tableau, QlikView, Power BI, etc.) a huge plus
- Ability to construct and test business cases and influence senior leaders across a variety of disciplines
- High degree of independent leadership, critical thinking, communication, accountability, analytical and teamwork skills
- Familiarity with financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flows statement)
- Open to challenging stakeholders with a data-driven viewpoint when appropriate to do so
- Superior relationship and influence management skills working with internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Adaptable interpersonal skills, high energy, and a proven team-first mentality
- University degree or equivalent experience
