External Supply and Manufacturing (ESM) supports the Operations strategy by establishing and managing suppliers across the world that meet our global standards. Through external suppliers, the team manages approximately one third of AstraZeneca’s value of production. ESM plays a key role in ensuring the external supply chains are robust and deliver value to AstraZeneca through driving continuous improvement.
The team also supports New Product Introduction through external supply, plays a pivotal role in integrating companies and products that AstraZeneca acquires and bringing innovation through supply chain programmes e.g. Market Access.
We are now looking for an External Operations Manager to join the team!
What you’ll do:
The External Operations Manager will be ultimately accountable for overall supply performance of assigned external suppliers within AstraZeneca’s ESM network. They will work with key functions (Quality, Technical, Regulatory, Global Supply Chain, etc.) within ESM and the supplier to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products to customers and patients at the most effective cost.
You will have primary responsibility for supply performance, issue resolution, risk management, change management, continuous improvement, and for overseeing supplier compliance to AstraZeneca’s and external (SHE, cGMP, SOX, etc.) requirements. You’ll support with business decisions by using understanding of the manufacturing technologies at suppliers with the aim of achieving improved business outcomes.
You’ll be accountable for the overall portfolio of projects executed at the supplier in support of either ESM or Global Supply Chain strategy initiatives. Key to this role’s success will be its ability to effectively drive AstraZeneca’s Supply System (Lean) to implement and manage process centric teams that promote and sustain a culture of continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required in engineering, pharmacy, chemistry or related science, or business-related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience in and demonstrated knowledge of various aspects of the pharmaceutical industry usually including experience in at least two of the following areas: Manufacturing management, Science Leadership, Supplier Management, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, Pharmaceutical development, Regulatory/Quality Assurance, Process Technology, Engineering, Logistics and Distribution, Procurement
Good understanding of different technologies required for manufacture and supply of pharmaceuticals (API, F&P, Devices & Vaccine)
Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder management and business impact through collaboration across manufacturing, supply chain and commercial functions
Proven experience in successfully delivering business-critical projects/programs involving external organisations
Understanding of quality principles and GMP requirements
Sound financial skills and budget management
Experience of identifying, implementing and managing business metrics
Lean Manufacturing/OpEX/CI Experience
Desirable:
Line or matrix management experience
Change management
Previous supplier management experience or external service provision
Business Process management experience
