Summary of the group:
Biopharmaceutical Development’s (BPD) Business Planning and Operations team leads the development and implementation of BPD’s functional strategy and operational business planning and support. Major areas of responsibility include supporting the creation of long-term technical objectives, development of annual budgets, functional resource management, contract management, and ensuring cross functional leadership bodies and business processes are effective.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Acts as a technical owner with an understanding of capacity management processes and systems
Adopt the role of process or system owner for key resource management systems used by BPD (PLANIT, RESOURCEIT, CAPIT, MYTIME)
Ensure R&D portfolio tools are reliable i.e. contain up-to-date and accurate information and are deployed to effectively support planning and control (P&C) of BPD FTE allocation / budgets in alignment with TA demand
Support functional leaders and/or co-leads in development and maintenance of high-quality resource demand planning templates / estimates. Independently review data and suggest improvements to templates, algorithms, tools and processes
Develop, implement, and maintain the global and functional BPD tools and business process for resource/capacity planning in conjunction with key partners across BPD.
Supports BPD leadership in the area of capacity management
Provide input to any assessment of the ability of BPD to deliver the portfolio / budget expectations required by broader AstraZeneca groups and/or lead assessments / projects as required
Coordinate with Finance and functional accountable leaders to support Rolling Budget Update (RBU)/Long Term Plan (LTP), and Mid Term Plan (MTP) business processes
Liaises with key stake holders across the organization to ensure teams are providing accurate resource management data
Support BPD interactions with Resource Councils and other relevant P&C related partners external to the function. Ensure reliable process for information collection and reporting
Support ad-hoc resource analysis requests in support of external benchmarking efforts or internal BPD leadership team discussions
Work with BPD Leadership, project co-leads and product / technology teams in resource forecasting and tracking to ensure that there is an adequate understanding of functional resource supply and its allocation vs demand. Facilitate individual periodic reviews with teams and/or BPD Leadership of resource allocation, rebalancing and supply/ budget constraints
Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
5-7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or relevant industry
3+ years of experience in capacity/resource analysis and management
1+ years of experience in portfolio management
Required Skills:
Previous experience of working in the Pharmaceutical and/or Healthcare industry.
Experience in Portfolio and/or Project management in a large and complex multinational business environment
Preference for someone with expertise in drug development resource and capacity tracking and analysis (business case/decision analysis, scenario modeling and forecasting).
Excellent data analysis skills
Excellent communication skills
Good with Microsoft Excel
Good negotiation skills
Desired Skills:
Experience with use of MS SharePoint
Experience with portfolio / project resource management systems such as Planisware (PLANIT), My Time and RRESOURCEIT
Experience in use of analytics platforms such as Spotfire, Tableau, Power BI
Proven high level of leadership, strategic and analytical thinking, problem solving and influencing skills to provide direction to team or organization. Ability to assimilate complex information and identify key issues and messages
Capable of making effective decisions, acts courageously and communicates with conviction at all levels. Experience and skilled at facilitation, negotiation and influencing, including at senior levels
