Medical Innovation Director
The Medical Innovation Director is responsible for the delivery and execution of key Biopharmaceutical Medical (BPM) innovation priorities including the Practice Change transformation.
Advances in digitalization, data, and advance analytics are changing health care, and pharma is positioned to capitalize on these advancements to improve patient care and outcomes.

The successful individual will be reporting directly to the Head, Medical Innovation and is accountable for driving the management and delivery of key medical innovation initiatives. A key focus for this role is driving the Practice Change initiative across geographies, working closely with Global and Market cross-functional teams and external key stakeholders to define the optimal practice change framework and ‘go to market’ approach to deliver a fundamental change in clinical practice in our core disease areas.
Practice Change Accountabilities:
- Work collaboratively with medical leadership teams, regions and market to define, pioneer and drive practice change strategies across AstraZeneca’s core disease areas.
- Partner effectively with other AZ functions to drive enterprise thinking, strategy set up and execution for practice change activities
- Create and evolve core practice assets, guidance and compliance guidelines e.g. Practice Change Framework, Templates, Impact measurement and compliance principles etc.
- Develop a broad understanding of Key market Healthcare System and payer landscape to ensure operationalisation of practice change@scale is delivered effectively adds value to the Local Health Ecosystem and the patients it serves
- Ensure oversight and delivery of practice change initiatives including assessment of market progression & make recommendations to optimize impact where appropriate.
- Provide expertise across AstraZeneca teams on the Practice Change agenda.
Medical Innovation accountabilities:
- Ensure oversight and delivery of major programme initiatives that link the strategic directives of Medical Innovation;
- Maintain view of the competitive landscape and a broad perspective across AZ and pharma industry to identify and drive best practice in support of healthcare innovation, working with external experts, technology partners, and other stakeholders to accelerate Medical Innovation efforts including practice change.
- Conduct activities and interactions consistent with Company values and in compliance with the Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards relevant to your role.
Essential skills and experience requirements:
- Bachelor or Master degree in a science-related field such as Medicine, life sciences
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Medical Affairs or Commercial roles, with demonstrated expertise driving disciplined execution in key strategic initiatives and facilitating transformative change across key markets, communicating and partnering with teams on a global scale
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize information to develop recommendations, strategic imperatives and actionable solutions
- Problem Solving & analysis; great at gleaning meaning from whatever data is available;
- Knows and stay abreast of developing trends in the industry, enabling continuous improvement and the ability to offer cutting-edge solutions
- Uses in-depth knowledge of the external healthcare landscape to lead strategic planning and enhance creative thinking and solution generation
- Ability to effectively drive results in a matrix environment, navigating change and ambiguity
- Strong project management skills, can develop and execute structured project plans to a high standard, ability to establish strategic direction for cross-functional project teams.
