What you’ll do
In this role, the Therapy Area Lead (TAL) will be accountable for developing medical strategy and workstreams which advance clinical practice and deliver AstraZeneca UK’s medical missions through world class portfolio launches, facilitating healthcare system change, and delivering transformational evidence. The TAL will also maintain AstraZeneca’s position as the scientific leader and partner of choice through delivering high level external stakeholder engagement with experts, professional societies and patient groups.
Key Accountabilities:
- To develop and lead the Medical strategy and its execution in the UK for the biologics portfolio across severe asthma and other emerging autoimmune diseases
- To provide Medical input into all UK strategic and operational planning initiatives for the Respiratory and Immunology Business Unit
- To build a strong network with key external stakeholders in the severe asthma and other emerging autoimmune disease (incl. KEEs, payers, patient advocacy groups) to deliver clinical and patient insight, customer focus and clinical governance into commercial objectives
- To develop and deliver pre-launch and peri-launch medical plans and activities
- To lead Field Medical Affairs team (MSLs) to deliver pre- and post-launch medical objectives
- Act to ensure GxP requirements are fully complied with and in line with the local Quality Management System (QMS) SOP and all other AZ policies and Standards
Essential Skills and Experience
- Registered Physician (preferably GMC) or Pharmacist (General Pharmaceutical Council) or PhD
- Prior experience in a Medical Affairs role – a minimum of 2 years for outstanding candidates is expected.
- Track record of leadership across the medical-marketing interface
- Evidence of effective team working and accountability
Desirable
- Therapy area experience and expertise in severe asthma and/or with biologic portfolios preferred
- Portfolio launch experience (medical or commercial)
- Detailed knowledge of the UK healthcare system
- Proven expertise in the ABPI Code of Practice
- Extensive patient and customer insight through experience of working with the NHS
- It is highly desirable for the candidate to hold or successfully acquire Nominated Signatory status. You will be required to gain Nominated Signatory status within 6 months of commencing your role. You are also required to pass re-validation testing every 12- 24 months or as requested
