What you’ll do
Analytical Sciences operates in a highly cross disciplinary environment that plays a crucial role in advancing new biopharmaceutical drug projects through the clinic. Central to our work is the detailed characterisation of our protein therapeutics that is achieved through using a wide variety of analytical techniques. With an aspiration to find innovate therapeutics to address unmet medical needs, we support an ever-expanding set of molecular formats from monoclonal antibodies, bispecifics, ADCs, fusion proteins, peptides and viruses.
To support our team of talented Scientists, AstraZeneca requires a multi-skilled Lab Technician, primarily lab-based and focusing on the delivery of organisational and scientific technical support to the Analytical Sciences R&D laboratories.
As part of your role you will:
- Provide technical support by helping to organise and maintain established lab operational procedures, reagent and sample management and storage.
- Act as a Point of Contact and provide ongoing lab support in co-ordination with internal/ external partners.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning and calibration of mass spectrometry equipment; maintain Instrument log books and data backup.
- Support the execution of automated sample preparation procedures to enable timely sample preparation for routine analysis.
- Maintain and supplement quality systems, including the generation and renewal of risk assessments.
- Facilitate the harmonisation and transition to a single analytical lab at the RDC, including creation and maintenance of an automated inventory for cold storage.
Essential criteria
- Experienced in the maintenance and cleaning of state of the art mass spectrometry equipment.
- Confident in executing automated liquid robotics.
- Effect communication and management of third party interfaces.
- Proficient in maintaining a lab to good laboratory standards, and in accordance with SHE guidelines.
Desirable criteria
- Educated to HND or BSc in a Life Science or associated area.
- An understanding of protein structure and folding.
- Experience working with HPLC, UPLC, mass spectrometry and automation/ liquid handling systems would be advantageous.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving capabilities with the confidence to react promptly to deliver the best service possible.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory Standards.
