As the Global Medical Head, Inhaled COPD, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives.

What you’ll do:

  • Owner of all brand medical strategies, including all life cycle management
    • Accountable for creating & developing the strategic direction, business/resource planning, and team leadership on a global level
  • Leadership of the Aerosphere Franchise COPD Global Medical Team (GMT)
    • Ensure global strategy is effectively communicated and executed at regional and country levels and that regional/country needs are appropriately accommodated in global deliverables
    • Represents Medical Affairs on the Global Brand Team (all country BU heads)
    • Drive customer insights and market needs from all countries into Global Product Team
  • Leadership of transformative Healthcare change programs globally, shaping care pathways, supporting the adoption of Global clinical guidelines and policy, deploying diagnostic solutions and embedding a population health approach to identify and treat high risk COPD patients
  • Design, execution and external communication of clinical practice-defining Ph3b/4 clinical trials, RWE studies and other evidence methodologies e.g. retrospective analyses etc
  • Cross-functional leadership and collaboration across all Global BioPharmaceuticals Medical functions (e.g. medical information, publications, patient centricity, epidemiology) and the Global Product Team (commercial, R&D, regulatory, biostatistics etc)
  • Create an environment of strong team spirit, good communication and high motivation to enable inspired and effective team members to achieve goals
  • Advances reputation of AstraZeneca and the Respiratory Medical Affairs organization with leading experts

Essential for the role:

  • Doctoral level degree (MD, PhD, PharmD)
  • Expertise in the respiratory therapy area
  • Experienced team leader in Global Medical or similar function
  • Strong demonstration of strategic and medical leadership prowess at therapeutic area and senior leader meetings
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering new initiatives, capabilities and leading large scale impactful medical initiatives desired
  • Demonstrated success in building and executing multi-year strategic roadmaps highly desired
  • Experience leading teams with a track record of delivering results in a complex environment
  • Strong working relationships with Global leaders in Respiratory medicine, including KEEs, professional societies, pharmaceutical companies
  • Proven ability to create bespoke strategy and mobilise an organization to execute
  • Strong executive presence and ability to work collaboratively with global executive teams and leadership
  • Significant experience of presenting to senior leadership; persuasive oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver executive presentations
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external colleagues in various geographies, cultures, roles, and hierarchic levels – enterprise leadership mindset
  • Strong track record in hiring, developing and retaining talented individuals, and in establishing high performing teams
  • Understanding of the complex and evolving Medical space with insights about trends, opportunities, risks, and an understanding of external stakeholders (payers, patients, physicians)
  • Ability to manage overall business and medical priorities while also being able to actively engage in more detailed execution discussions
  • Ability to fluidly flex between high level strategy and detailed tactics as required
  • Strong analytical mind-set and ability to quickly assess large amounts of information and distil into key messages and actions
  • Integrity and high ethical standards
