Are you a business leader who is passionate about learning and looking for a more challenging global role? As Head of Learning & Development for Global Operations, you will be engaging and influencing leaders and colleagues across sites, functions and regions within every location of our organization.

You'll set the approach, pace and focus of internal and external strategic capability building activities across the end to end Operations network. Focusing on developing the capabilities and learning culture that delivers the greatest impact on business outcomes.

You will collaborate with colleagues across all levels of our organisation up to and including the Operations Senior Leadership team (OSLT) to make learning more personalised and meaningful to individuals and teams, supported by the right analytics that helps us to measure the return on investment of our efforts. You'll provide leadership and direction regarding how to create sufficient time for learning in a busy manufacturing and supply environment, and how and where to tailor our approach to reflect the diversity of our organisation.

Ultimately, the Head of Learning and Development will help us achieve our business strategy through developing, designing and deploying strategies and processes that enable the individuals and teams within AZ to drive learning growth.

This opportunity would suit a leader who has a background in either Operations, Supply Chain or HR and experience working within a regulated environment would be an advantage. Success in this role would enable any individual to move into other senior roles within Global Operations or HR.

What you’ll do:

We'll expect you to provide expertise in how to embed, integrate and prioritize learning and development within the busy lives of all our Operations colleagues across the globe. This includes colleagues in production, laboratories and offices.

We'll need you to drive cohesion and collaboration to a globally dispersed network of learning professionals. You'll make the best use of skills and resources available, maximise adoption and outcomes of learning interventions and minimise duplication of effort.

You'll direct a team of practitioners in different expert areas (Consulting, Capability Building, Analytics, People Development, Communications etc.) and will have budgetary/cost reporting responsibility.

Key Accountabilities:

To develop and implement an overall strategy for Learning & Development across Global Operations that fulfils near and long term capability requirements aligned to Global Operations’ overarching strategy. This will require active collaboration with the Global Talent & Development organisation to ensure alignment between Operations and AZ learning strategies.

You'll develop and maintain a strong and visible trusted adviser relationship with the OSLT, including EVP Operations and IT. You'll ensure the L&D strategy is integrated into business requirements and delivers measurable business outcomes supporting Global Operations in being a great place to work.

In partnership with the business and HR, you'll define future capability requirements, and oversee design and implementation of new programs to meet skills gaps and future growth requirements identified via the strategic workforce planning activities, as well as to retain top talent in line with business strategy.

Be an active leader in Learning Governance across AZ, as well as lead Learning Governance for Operations. You'll embed an appropriate operating model, governance and ways of working to effectively deliver L&D strategy across Global Operations. Including providing clarity as to how and where work gets done, and using Lean methodologies to ensure appropriate standards are applied to deliver the highest quality interventions.

We'll ask you to directly lead and develop a team of learning professionals. This will involve ensuring individual performance is managed, development is provided and succession planning is in place.

Through creation of an environment of change, you'll encourage others to drive improvement in tools, methods or processes to deliver elite learning and development activities.

  • Significant experience in championing and driving digital improvement initiatives, and leading the change management efforts required to fully embrace new ways of learning

  • Demonstrated leadership competence of managing a globally dispersed team – ideally including elements of hard and dotted line responsibilities. Able to flex personal style in order to deliver business results in a multi-cultural global environment.

  • A natural communicator with the ability to engage others and translate learning and development theory into practical and meaningful interventions that resonates within the organisation.

  • Gravitas and ability to develop strong mutually beneficial relationships and establish a high level of credibility at senior levels in the organisation.

  • Able to perform root cause analysis and resolve problems using conceptual and data driven analytical and quantitative skills

  • Project management, analytical and research skills and expertise
