What you’ll do
The Vaccines Medical Science Liaison is responsible for being an ambassador of AstraZeneca’s Vaccines and Immune Therapies portfolio by engaging in Scientific Exchange with Key External Experts, Health Care Professionals, and Clinical Investigators. The Immune Therapies MSL engages with external experts to identify medical unmet needs, evidence gaps and gain insight, and delivers presentations in a non-promotional scientific context as determined by global / local Medical & Scientific Affairs plans.
Some Key Responsibilities:
Jointly develops the local external expert engagement plan with other MSLs, identifies external experts according to their scientific interest and related affiliations, and helps to build AstraZeneca’s external expert network.
Engages with external experts using deep scientific expertise and knowledge of AstraZeneca’s marketed products and development compounds in Vaccines and Immune Therapies.
To act as regional field medical affairs expert
To share knowledge and insight with cross-functional colleagues through a centralised insight gathering process
To provide technical input into brand/medical activities.
To support research discussions with clinical leaders in dedicated region
Engage in account level cross-functional working with sales and market access colleagues within the boundaries laid down by the ABPI code of practise and the relevant AZ standard operating procedures - remain up to date on ABPI changes
Remain up-to-date on therapy advances, product development plans, competitor developments and trials, AZ products and trial data
Patient pathway redesign
Maintain an understanding of local health economy and how that interacts with the patient pathways relevant to their therapy area
Own relationship / partnership with priority KEEs and support KEE professional development
Formulate and execute a strategically aligned local non-promotional account plan. Engage in an ongoing cycle of review and modification to ensure this plan remains relevant to AZ’s non-promotional objectives
Reactively engage with identified key local relevant decision makers in response to requests for information about development compounds and clinical/ scientific data relating to currently marketed products in line with industry and AZ Medical Information standards and ABPI Code.
Support Clin Ops with feasibility visits and accompanied site visits, should extra medical knowledge and scientific discussion be required
Successful collaboration with cross functional teams internally
Essential
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Previous experience as MSL - Ideally in Infectious Diseases, Haematology, Oncology, Immunology, Virology or Nephrology
Clinical, scientific or life sciences background – within Infectious Diseases, Haematology, Oncology, Immunology, Virology or Nephrology
Strategic mindset with ability to take operationalise strategy
Understanding of local health economy and interaction with patient pathways
Understanding of clinical pathways design and delivery, common barriers to optimal care and how to navigate
Communication and presentation skills
Business acumen/entrepreneurship; seek out opportunities and new ways of working
Understanding of real-world data to identify opportunities to support / lead data generation projects
Understanding of evidence-based medicine and its application into clinical practice
Understanding of ABPI Code of Practice and its practical application
Desirable
Higher degree in science or business subject
Experience in the development of clinical trial programmes in the support of the therapy area portfolio an advantage
Experience of account management
Knowledge +/- experience of real-world data projects
