Site description

This role will be located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, this site combines biomedical research, patient care and education on a single site location in the heart of Cambridge. The office will be within walking distance of the new purpose-built building that will bring together the company’s research and development activity in a state-of-the-art strategic R&D centre and global corporate headquarters. The building has been designed with the open architecture reflecting AstraZeneca’s approach to research. Open laboratories and glass walls will enable new ways of working across teams, whilst a central courtyard will put science on full display.

What you’ll do

We’ll encourage you to develop novel therapeutics and biomarkers, identify new targets and publish your work. This role is fundamental in all stages of the drug discovery and development process – and as your experience grows, so will your role and career prospects.

  • Working with in vivo pharmacologists across the oncology portfolio, you’ll apply your technical expertise to a number of projects delivering efficacy and pharmacodynamic studies to aid drug discovery and development.

  • Planning and executing complex scientific in vivo studies while maintaining open communication with multiple stakeholders.

  • Being able to prioritise your own workload whilst demonstrating excellent team-working skills will be key to this role.

  • You’ll also have the opportunity to work collaboratively within cross-functional, multidisciplinary project teams.

  • This position will require some out of hours work, including weekend work on a shift pattern. This will be compensated with a rest day off and annual shift allowance.

Essential for the role

  • Master of Science or equivalent experience in a relevant area of cancer biology

  • High ethical standards and experience evaluating animal welfare

  • Excellent attention to detail and understanding of the need for scientific rigour

  • Ability to critically analyse and communicate in vivo scientific data

  • Ability to prioritise own workload and to work as part of a team

  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues in a multidisciplinary setting

  • Interest to expand scientific understanding of oncology and drug discovery

  • Desire to take-on new responsibilities, build new skillsets and continually develop within role

Desirable for the role

  • Expert in vivo skills that can be applied to oncology drug discovery

  • Home Office licence holder modules 1-4 or A, B, C

  • Experience in or interest to develop skills in cell culture or drug formulation

  • Experience in carrying out independent, relevant scientific research, ideally evidenced by publication of scientific posters or peer-reviewed papers
