ABOUT THE ROLE?
Enterprise Data & AI Services (ED&AIS) is a central IT function accountable for enterprise strategy and standards in Data and AI engineering, enabling services, information data architecture as well as the delivery of data provisioning services and AI product delivery for the enterprise. The organization works closely with Data & AI delivery teams across Business Technology Groups (BTGs) and data governance teams from Line of Business (LoB)Data offices, supporting and enabling the build of the AstraZeneca Data Mesh products and analytical solutions.
It identifies enabling, horizontal services required across the estate and ensures effective easy to use services such as Cataloguing, Privacy, Unification, Profiling, Data Quality, Engineering Orchestration, AI Ops, Model Registries etc
It ensures, through Information Architecture, that the resultant data products are FAIR by design enabling effective re-use.
It supports functional data provision and data product delivery to LoB / BTG teams to functional and global standards and policies ensuring compliant and secure data assets (working with LoB Data Offices).
It leads the delivery of advanced AI products in NLP, Computer Vision, Recommendation Engines and Predictive Modelling, supporting BTG/LoB teams in tech solution selection, product build and the run of business critical AI solutions
It leads the strategy of and innovation in Data & AI technology for the enterprise, working closely with Enterprise Architecture and Tech Innovation teams
As the Data Ops Service Lead you will lead the strategy, roadmap, build and management of Enterprise Data Ops services which support data engineers in the movement & transformation of data. This will involve leading a team of data engineers working closely with Engineering teams across AZ to understand needs, map existing services, understand gaps, build and run services, consolidate services and where possible identify local innovation for global adoption. The role will work closely with Data & AI Architects in the development of end to end design patterns for data solutions, positioning re-usable services as building blocks in solutions.
You will work closely with technology vendors, understanding their capabilities and roadmaps and work to establish strategic and sustainable consumable AZ Data Ops services and make informed decisions as to when to buy or build services.
The focus will be the establishment of a set of high value, highly consumed, Data Ops services used by all data engineering teams, driving measurable step changes in Data Engineering efficiencies across AZ. You will also work other key enabling technical teams such as Infrastructure (compute & network), IT security to ensure an easy to use end to end service for data engineering teams to consume.
TYPICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provides strategic direction to teams of Data Ops Engineers in the delivery of their responsibilities.
Support data and analytics solutions through enterprise services.
Deliver robust, cost-effective, automated solutions to support frequently asked business questions/analytical demands.
Responsible for overseeing the development of engineering standards, roadmaps and blueprints that maximises current technology platforms and adapts to new data technology, working closely with Data Architects and Solution Architects.
Direct testing and quality assurance of new data and analytics and DataOps solutions, to ensure they are fit for release: code assurance, Unit and System Integration Testing performance tuning, data testing, release management control and support of production processes including their SLAs.
Oversee and manage the work of teams of Data Engineers, on and offshore, ensuring the quality of the delivery, guiding in standard methodology, problem-solving design/delivery challenges.
Direct teams to innovate and test new technologies with relevance to data and analytics, including proof of technology/value assessments and case development.
Responsible for data and analytics solution evaluation and selection decisions; buy vs build decisions, and project estimates which contribute to the creation of case and delivery plans.
Contribute to the continued development of Data Ops Engineering as a capability - training, tooling, ways of working, and operating model to optimise output and value.
Manage the relationship with key suppliers (technology and Engineering service providers).
Selection and implementation of data ops technologies and industry standard methodologies, in alignment with the Enterprise Architecture and Technology Innovation functions.
Maintain an on-going professional development in data and analytics technologies (and methodologies) to keep AstraZeneca current with advancing and changing data technology landscape and innovation.
Development and delivery of appropriate technology training programmes to ensure education and adoption – (i.e. AstraZeneca Data Engineering University).
Ensure strong working relationships with AstraZeneca data and analytics partner groups to develop an in-depth understanding of business priorities and early insight into changing needs in order to inform and shape demand.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED?
Essential
- The role holder will possess a blend of design skills needed for Agile data development projects
- Proficiency in data engineer techniques and testing methodologies
- Proficiency in data development technologies
- Proficiency with data and application design patterns and processes
Desirable
- Experience in reusing of metadata and prebuilt components from cataloguing tools
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of the external market for data-related technology and standard processes
- Demonstrate initiative, strong customer orientation, and cross-cultural working
- Exposure to Data Pipelines (Ingest & Store, Data Preparation, Discover & Present, Insight & Experience)
