As part of this exciting journey we are seeking a hardworking chemist to join us in Cambridge on a permanent basis, with an outstanding team who are working to discover, develop and deliver the right drugs to the right people, in order to make a life changing difference to patient survival.
You will help us explore the amazing things which science can do, working on projects from lead optimisation through to candidate selection. As part of the Medicinal Chemistry Discovery Process group you will be responsible for implementing strategies and leading outsourcing campaigns to deliver multi-hundred gram quantities of intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, conceiving and implementing innovative synthetic solutions to deliver the next generation of Oncology medicines.
Essential requirements
A degree or Ph.D. in a chemistry-related discipline.
An ability to lead technically complex outsourcing campaigns to deliver multi-hundred gram quantities of intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for early phase projects at the Discovery/Process interface. A proven track record of delivering innovative solutions to complex problems within agreed timelines.
Experience with working with external partners
Excellent team-working and communication skills; an ability to constructively challenge assumptions and strongly influence the strategy of cross-disciplinary project teams.
A strong background in synthetic organic chemistry with an appreciation for the phase-appropriate route development work required to enable early scale-up campaigns.
Clear understanding of contemporary synthetic organic chemistry.
A keen eye for detail.
Good experience of multi-tasking across multiple activities simultaneously
Desirable requirements
Experience of working at the interface of Medicinal Chemistry and Process Chemistry.
Experience of transfer of laboratory processes to larger scale (e.g. Kilogram-Lab).
Awareness of contemporary drug design principles and how modern synthetic technologies such as high throughput experimentation, flow chemistry and biocatalysis can be used in the drug discovery process.
Experience of coordinating diverse collaboration models (FTE and fee for service)
