Operations Procurement is at the forefront of establishing external manufacturing partners for these new technologies emerging in the AZ early pipeline.
The role
Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical External Manufacturing Procurement, the OPM role is key to crafting AstraZeneca’s supplier landscape to support our emerging pipeline of large molecules through manufacturing of Drug Substance (DS), Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) & Drug Product (DP) for Phase 1-3 supply. You will be at the forefront of establishing external partners through market analysis and sourcing projects, collaborating closely with business partners in Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD) & Global Technical Operations (GTO). You will supply to overall API and Formulation & Packing Category Strategies, working closely with Therapy Area Leads and Global Category Managers in the Commercial External Manufacturing Procurement team to connect clinical and commercial Sourcing strategies.
What you’ll do
Strategy:
- A key member & contributor of the Clinical Large Molecule Procurement Boards (Drug Substance & Drug Product)
- Lead core category meetings with business partners, crafting an evolving supplier landscape
- Ability to connect clinical & commercial strategies both within team and across partner groups.
- May lead improvement initiatives & workstreams to support wider team & delivery of procurement objectives
- Negotiating sophisticated supply agreements
Business & Supplier Engagement:
- Working closely with colleagues in Global Procurement Services, Poland to initiate source to contract activities
- Developing excellent relationships & influence with internal customers
- Develop positive relationships with vendors to achieve driven value and quality of services
- Delivering on AZ Procurement Value Proposition
- Leads and monitors supplier spend & records savings.
- Ensuring procurement processes and supplier management are applied in line with
- Identified AstraZeneca standard operating policies, compliance, ethics & procedures.
- Handles the business relationship with key suppliers, on behalf of employees and the business, coordinating and running the procurement process and customer happiness
- Collaborating with the business collaborators to deliver RFPs and Statement of Works.
- Develops and nurtures technical expertise and knowledge within project team or broader
- Procurement function by disseminating standard methodologies and sharing knowledge across functions and project teams
- Support AZ’s industry-leading Sustainability agenda with suppliers
Required skills
- Degree level or equivalent qualifications
- Excellent solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry
- Knowledge of new biotechnology platforms.
- Minimum 7 years in Procurement / Business Development roles
- Minimum 5 years in similar roles in Bio Tech or Pharma
- Project & time management
- Supplier relationship management, negotiation & influencing.
- Technical expertise in at least one Procurement area, and competence in several others
- Communication skills and ability to influence others
- Excellent collaborator
