An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join our Global Indirect Tax team as an Associate Director leading our global indirect tax operations function. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leading the development, implementation and delivery of AstraZeneca’s global indirect tax compliance and risk management strategies to deliver sustainable value.
- Responsible for ensuring AstraZeneca meets all of its global indirect tax compliance obligations and remains fully compliant across all jurisdictions. Continuously assessing and challenging that appropriate controls and processes are in place.
- Responsible for the review of indirect tax Balance Sheet accounts, and ensuring any differences are thoroughly and appropriately investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
- Driving efficiencies in indirect tax processes whilst optimising cash-flow/balance sheet positions.
- Partnering with the wider business to enhance and develop successful long-term relationships, through the provision of timely, appropriate, and commercial indirect tax advice which supports the delivery of business objectives.
- Review of new indirect tax legislation, case-law and government policy to ensure changes to ERP systems, processes and controls are made in a timely manner and appropriate updates communicated to stakeholders.
- Continuous review of AstraZeneca’s structure and business model to identify opportunities and ideas for improvement, alongside building awareness of indirect tax around the organisation.
- Responsible for identifying, analysing and addressing new and emerging indirect tax risk and updating relevant stakeholders.
- Owning the indirect tax relationships with external advisors and service providers, for example the global outsourced VAT compliance contract with Deloitte.
- Supporting AstraZeneca’s global financial tax transformation project by providing indirect tax subject matter expertise.
- Supporting the business with managing indirect tax audits and controversy matters, alongside maintaining good relationships with tax authorities.
- Contributing to the development of AstraZeneca’s wider tax function, including the coaching and development of more junior members of the team.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Qualified Tax Professional (AIIT/CTA/ADIT) and/or a Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA).
- Extensive cross-border indirect tax compliance and reporting experience including SAF-T, SII, MTD and e-invoicing.
- Strong experience and exposure of advising large corporates on complex global cross-border supply chains and operational indirect tax matters.
- Familiar with SAP and indirect tax technology solutions e.g. OneSource, Vertex.
- Involvement with a global SAP S/4 Hana implementation or similar ERP solution (desirable).
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and collaboration skills.
- Experience managing a team.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Previous experience of working within Biotech or Pharma would be a significant advantage.
