The Head of Diagnostic Project Management – Late Oncology is responsible for developing the precision medicine project management capability within the Precision Medicine & Biosamples function, ensuring best practice and effective diagnostic project management for the AZ late oncology precision medicine portfolio; where our goal is to achieve successful approval of regulated companion diagnostics to target precision medicines to those patients who are most likely to respond.

You will have responsibility to recruit, retain and develop a global high performing team of >25 project management experts, operating in 5 countries (UK, US, Spain, Poland, China), and will create an inclusive and collaborative culture where shared learning and people development thrives. You will collaborate closely with Precision Medicine Leaders to align on priorities, and will coach and empower your team to provide expert contributions, as a core member of the diagnostic project team, to deliver regulated companion diagnostics to cost, time and quality.

Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with the Head of Diagnsotic Project Management for Early Oncology & BioPharma to develop talent, share learning, implement consistent tools/ processes/ ways of working and to optimise R&D enterprise project planning tools; to track budget and FTE resources essential for R&D prioritisation, portfolio planning/ progress and decision making.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Scope and shape the requirements for successful project delivery for the Precision Medicine Late Oncology portfolio to ensure delivery of companion diagnostics to cost, time and quality

  • Develop a global high performing team of project management experts

    • Develop and communicate inspiring vision and purpose and create a culture of innovation, openness, shared learning, inclusion and diversity

    • Attract, recruit and retain highly motivated project management experts

    • Performance manage senior managers aligned to AZ’s rewarding performance process

    • Build Project Management capabilities and Diagnostic development expertise through coaching, training and continuous learning in collaboration with diagnostic project teams

    • Identify development opportunities and effectively plan for succession across all key roles

    • Develop and implement best practice, and ensure consistent ways of working across teams

  • Lead the Late Oncology Diagnostic Project Management Office within Precision Medicine & Biosamples, function to provide expert project management leadership/ contributions

    • Partner with senior precision medicine leaders to optimises use of Project Management resource across diagnostic teams, aligned with business/ portfolio priorities

    • Ensure diagnostic projects have adequate project and implementation plans to deliver to cost, time and quality

    • Ensure project resource information ($ & FTE) is accurate/ within tolerance in the R&D enterprise project planning tool (PLANIT/ Planisware)

    • Ensure a clear and consistent approach is in place to manage project risk (risks are recorded, monitored and proactively managed)

    • Strong facilitation and planning of diagnostic project team meetings to drive delivery with external diagnostic partners (in close collaboration with Precision Medicine Lead)

    • Deliver high quality Precision Medicine project review meetings to ensure senior leader endorsement of precision medicine strategies

    • Continuously identify and implement improvements to the Project Management operating model to ensure it meets the evolving needs of the business

Essential

  • Understanding of Precision Medicine concepts and regulatory expectations

  • Extensive experience in project management within a pharmaceutical or clinical environment

  • Proven line management skills inc examples of coaching and people development

  • Ability to influence team/ key stakeholders to drive positive change and continuous improvement

  • Effective working in global/ multi-cultural teams

Desirable
