At AstraZeneca, we built the Commercial Digital healthcare delivery team to accelerate our efforts to drive and partner on solutions that improve the ability for HCPs, patients, and Healthcare Systems to deliver the highest quality of care, enable patients to maximize the value of their healthcare experience and for AstraZeneca to lead innovation in collaborations across Markets, Institutes, and providers resulting in richer data collation and use, resulting in overall better care provision for the patients we serve.

As Director of Digital Strategy, you will create value for AZ by building our ability to define & execute digital strategies that translate our business objectives into highly effective and efficient investments in digital health and digital customer experience.


  • Collaborate with key partners in CDH, GCIT, GCO, R&D, Medical and across the commercial organization to create multiyear commercial digital strategies for organization, investment, and innovation that reflect the needs and ambitions of the business. Areas for long-term strategy include omnichannel transformation, greater integration of data sources and data-consuming digital platforms, and the long-term digital health commercialization strategy.
  • Create strategies that work within our decentralized organization to empower MCs, global franchises, medical, and other critical business customers to use digital at scale for maximum business and patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Digital Governance and other key stakeholders to define standards-based strategies that:
    • Dramatically improve our use of the web (and other core channels)
    • Ensure that our digital health investments are guided by an understanding of that space
    • Build the needed skills and knowledge in our organization to make commercial digital health a sustained competitive advantage
  • Evangelize critical initiatives in strategy, governance, & the adoption of new ways of working with global brands, medical, & MCs worldwide
  • Work with Director of Partnerships and other internal stakeholders & external vendors/partners to stand up a consistent expert capacity for digital landscape assessment that democratizes access to those expert insights, reduces spend on low-quality analyses
  • Drive the scaling of digital solutions through driving connectivity across the Commercial Digital Health team and MC teams, based on identifying shared priorities and proposing solutions that can be scaled across brands, teams, and geographies.
  • Key initial focus and delivery include:
    • Work with R&D to establish a shared digital product roadmap supported by a BAU process and aligned to existing AZ processes.
    • Collaborate with Digital Customer Experience team, MCs, and other stakeholders to align on Commercial Digital investment priorities with GCIT
    • Act as a talent magnet to upskill existing and bring in new talent into the digital space

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant field of study
  • Experienced 8 + years in leading the creation of an effective digital strategy for a global organization
  • Experience building & leading a global digital organization for a large multinational life sciences enterprise
  • Understanding of broad health industry market archetypes
  • 10+ years in the commercial digital business
  • In-depth understanding of OBU and BBU brand priorities
  • Previous people management and leadership
  • Experience in bringing innovation that is solving complex and multi-dimensional issues from an operational, technical, financial, and human perspective
  • Experience In driving global change in complex organizations, covering multiple cultures and a significant number of functions
  • Highly developed communication and influencing abilities across organizational teams and levels in a large complex operating environment
  • Ability to express complex ideas in a clear and compelling way to multiple external and internal stakeholder groups
  • Entrepreneurial with the highest level of integrity and the ability to foster trust and loyalty
  • Motivated by delivering digital innovation in service of enhanced patient outcomes and treatment experience
