What you’ll do

Enterprise Data and AI (ED&AI) – Data Engineering Services is a central team leading Data, Analytics and AI Platforms and Solutions. We build and handle enterprise technology platforms, and run them as services, which enable AZ data engineers from all domain areas to address data challenges.

  • Craft and develop the Workflow Orchestration Platform based on ground-breaking cloud technologies such as AWS, ensuring that it is robust, scalable, highly available, and secure

  • Integrate the platform with other tools and technologies used by the Data Engineering community of AstraZeneca

  • Provide domain expertise (SME) support to users of the platform, helping them address issues and optimize their use of the platform

  • Apply agile principles to the development and maintenance of the platform, finding the right balance between iterating fast and crafting solutions that meet the needs of users and the organization

  • Work closely with the DataOps team to ensure that the solution fits into the larger picture of Data Availability at AstraZeneca

  • Define and handle the roadmap for the platform, ensuring that it evolves to meet user needs and incorporates standard methodologies for workflow orchestration and data management

  • Ensure that the platform is efficient and provides measurable business value and define and supervise key performance indicators (critical metrics) to supervise its success

Crucial for the role

  • Experience in software engineering, with exposure to Data and Analytics projects

  • Strong AWS architecture skills, including experience with services such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, CFT, and Route53, and a good understanding of NACLs, security groups, and VPC endpoints. Exposure to EKS and MWAA would be a plus

  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python

  • Experience in working using Agile/Scrum methodology

  • Strong expertise in Linux and shell scripting

  • Good knowledge of DevOps tools such as Jenkins and Ansible

  • Good exposure to code versioning tools such as GitHub and Bitbucket

  • Exposure to project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence

  • Experience working collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals on a timely basis

  • Understanding of REST APIs and how they can be used to build scalable and resilient systems

  • Understanding of database design principles, including 3rd and 5th normal forms, as well as star schemas for data warehousing

  • You have good skills in writing SQL scripts, with exposure to technologies such as PostgreSQL or MySQL

  • Exposure to working in a sophisticated environment, with teams spread out in different locations

  • Possess critical thinking skills and can challenge solutions

  • Proactive in looking after unexpected blockers and issues
