AstraZeneca are seeking an experienced medicinal chemist for the Tumour Targeted Delivery Chemistry group. Based at the TTD Chemistry site in London, you will be an integral part of the medicinal chemistry teams working on the design and synthesis of linker payload molecules for novel antibody drug conjugates (ADCs).
ADCs are among the fastest growing drug classes in oncology. This position offers the successful applicant the opportunity to have an impact on the rational design of the linker payloads and conjugation technology for the next generation of ADCs.

What you'll do
Lead a team working on the rational design of linker payloads and conjugation technology for the next generation of ADCs. Provides medicinal chemistry knowhow and technical input to expand the role of ADCs beyond classical cytotoxic payloads
Devise and execute on medicinal chemistry strategies that will enable the discovery of novel, differentiated small molecule candidates for tumour targeted delivery by incorporating sound structural, pharmacological, physicochemical, metabolic, and safety considerations
Cultivate interdisciplinary collaboration and build positive relationships with partner lines
Applies technical knowledge and expertise to achieve project targets in a timely fashion and to agreed quality standards.
Stays on top of trends within the external scientific world to transform novel ideas appropriately into research programs and activities within AstraZeneca
Plays a role in enhancing the external reputation of AstraZeneca's medicinal chemistry and synthetic capabilities through publications and presentations at conferences.
Ensures own work, and the work of others, is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
Essential for the role
Doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry
Experience in the biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry, with a strong background of scientific innovation and success in delivering clinical candidates
Experience of small molecule drug design techniques, including structure-based design, property and ligand-based design, pharmacokinetics, and hit ID strategies
Experience in leading a chemistry project
Theoretical knowledge and long term experience of relevant techniques and technologies
Understanding the process of successful drug discovery/drug development
Understanding of patent and IP strategies
Desirable for the role
Line management experience
Previous experience in the field of ADCs
