AstraZeneca has an opportunity for a Senior Treasury Analyst to join the Treasury Front Office team as part of the wider Group Treasury function based in our central Cambridge office. Working within a collaborative team you will be responsible for a variety of activities, ranging from advising local AZ business units on treasury related matters, through driving process improvement initiatives within Front Office to a shared responsibility for day-to-day Group liquidity and foreign exchange dealing (across c.30 currencies).

The role requires an individual to have a good attention to detail, curiosity, intuition, decisiveness and the ability to prioritise.

The Group Treasury team is currently made up of 20 individuals, supporting the AstraZeneca Group on all Treasury matters. The role and current size of the core Treasury team provides an excellent opportunity to directly contribute to the Treasury function of a global FTSE 10 company.

Role and Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with Business Units (in conjunction with the wider Group Treasury team), providing them Treasury advice and guidance, including the internal funding requirements and FX risk management of AZ Group entities

  • Assist with the production of the Quarterly CFO Report for Group Treasury, ensuring all content is received on time, complete and of a high standard

  • Contribute to the balance sheet hedging program for all principal AZ Group entities with aggregate FX exposures of +$2bn

  • Monitor and evaluate the Groups’ transactional FX exposures (+$30bn per annum), proposing relevant risk thresholds and hedging strategies

  • Assist with collaboration and alignment of Front Office activities between the Cambridge and New Haven treasury teams

  • Contribute to Groups’ cash investment activities, proposing relevant investment products and execution strategies

  • Evaluate and propose hedging execution strategies related to significant one-off transactions e.g. business development transactions

  • Contribute and where appropriate lead ad-hoc treasury projects and initiatives, working with other internal teams as appropriate

  • Challenge existing Front Office processes to drive continuous improvement

  • Initiate and drive “value-add” activities within Front Office

In addition to the above, share responsibility for the following activities:

  • Collaborate with Treasury Operations to ensure efficient execution of daily tasks

  • Monitor and manage Group’s cash pooling arrangements daily across c. 30 currencies

  • Monitor and manage key FX exposures across the Group

  • Execute daily foreign exchange transactions to manage the Group liquidity and hedge exposures ($10+ billion of FX spots and forwards per annum)

  • Manage (and report on) daily liquidity through investment and redemption of a variety of short-term money market instruments (eg money market funds, repos, separately managed accounts) to maximise yield within security and liquidity constraints (year end 2022 group cash investments of c.$7 billion)

  • Issue short-term debt in the US Commercial Paper market

  • Assist with the production of daily, weekly and other periodic reporting related to Front Office activities

  • Run and analyse Front Office monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Qualified to degree level with a professional finance qualification desirable e.g. ACT, CIMA, CFA

  • Experience working in an international Treasury function (ideally 2 to 4 years) with significant dealing exposures

  • Good understanding of and interest in financial markets

  • Focus on delivery and able to work accurately and decisively under pressure to meet tight deadlines, and takes pride in doing so

  • Sets high personal standards and takes responsibility for delivering top-class service, always acting with integrity

  • Experience of treasury management system, preferably Quantum

  • Strong Excel skills and comfortable with basic statistical and financial analysis

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster respectful working relationships within AZ and with our external financial counterparties
