Associate Principal Scientist for the Renal bioscience In-Vivo team - CVRM

We are now recruiting a Senior scientist /Associate Principal Scientist (depending on experience) to join the Bioscience Renal in-vivo team within the Early Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) therapeutic area. The position is placed at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Cambridge, UK
You will be part of a vibrant Renal Bioscience Department that focuses on finding new treatment options to people living with renal disease. In the in-vivo team we work with various pre-clinical models and different drug modalities. You will take part in establishing and developing new methods, models, biomarker analysis, driving new targets, and being part of drug project teams. You will be required to show scientific leadership in renal areas and have the possibility to present data internally and externally as well as writing manuscripts for publication. At AstraZeneca, you will collaborate with experts from different functions.
CVRM is one of AstraZeneca´s core therapy areas and renal disease is one of AstraZeneca's strategic research areas within CVRM that aims towards new treatments to halt, slow or reverse the progression of kidney disease.
What you'll do
With a passion for science, you will support our growing portfolio in the renal disease area by joining a team of professionals who are passionate about advancing science to discover and develop novel therapeutics that will benefit kidney patients.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Independently design, plan and perform high-quality in-vivo and ex-vivo experiments in renal disease area to assess efficacy, biomarkers, and understand mechanisms of action of lead candidates
- Deliver & analyse data, provide interpretations using scientific rigor from own data and that of others, and prepare presentations, reports, regulatory documents in timely manner
- Work collaboratively with project teams, CROs, and academic partners to define the in-vivo strategy and support early drug discovery programs
- Identify and develop new target ideas, implement new models/assays/ latest technologies relevant to the renal disease area
- You will work independently and will be encouraged to plan your daily work in collaboration with your team leader
- Show scientific leadership by presenting work at internal and external meetings, write scientific publications and presentation of original work at scientific conferences and symposia
Essential for the role
- Hands-on expertise in setting up, validating, and running in-vivo and ex-vivo pharmacology models of kidney diseases in rodents, plus a thorough understanding of study design and 3R's
- PhD in pharmacology, physiology or medicine or other relevant area
- Publication record within in-vivo Renal science, with good understanding of kidney physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology
- Enthusiasm for laboratory work and experience in lab analytical techniques such RT-qPCR, ELISA, WB, as well as extensive experience in data QC, analysis, interpretation
- Experience of writing SOPs
- Ability to work as part of a team to achieve a common goal and work with multiple projects concurrently
- Hard working, organised, balanced and meticulous with an ability to perform under pressure
- Provide solutions to a variety of problems of diverse scope involving basic scientific principles
Desirable requirements
- Good understanding of drug development process with a demonstrable experience in industry/biotech drug discovery
- Proven publication record as a senior author
- Experience in in-vivo imaging techniques
- Experience in animal surgeries
