Summary of the group:

The Respiratory & Immunology Bioscience Asthma and Skin Immunity group, sitting within AstraZeneca Research and Early Development, is a dynamic and enthusiastic group aiming to identify new therapies for lung and skin diseases. We are driven by science and the need to offer new therapies that improve the lives of patients with debilitating diseases. This is a great opportunity to join in our effort to understand biology of the lung and skin to make a difference to people’s lives every day.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

We are looking for a motivated new member of the team, who is able to learn and grow in our organisation. The successful candidate will provide broad laboratory support for ongoing projects in dermatology.

  • Working independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team, you will support basic research and drug projects by performing and optimising assays

  • A team player able to collaborate on multiple projects with scientists from a variety of functional teams

  • Accurately record and assess all data generated in course of analyses through preparation of protocols and electronic lab book write-ups with a high attention to detail

  • Ensure that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards

  • Solve technical and logistical challenges

  • Communicate effectively with line manager and team


Education, Skills and Qualifications:


PhD in immunology or dermatology or BSc (or equivalent) Immunology or relevant field with a minimum of 4 years relevant laboratory experience


Required Skills:

  • Dermatology or immunology background

  • Expertise in primary human cell culture, expertise in multi-panel FACS, including both intracellular and extracellular cell surface markers

  • Strong hands-on skills in basic biochemical and molecular techniques including quantification of mRNA (qPCR) and protein expression; ELISA, Western blot

  • Experience with data organization and basic statistical analysis

  • Demonstrate strong organization, record keeping and communication skills


Desired Skills:

  • Experience working in dermatology (eg. epidermal keratinocyte cell culture, skin explant model)

  • Experience working in dermatology target validation and/or screening for drug discovery

  • Single cell RNA wet lab sample processing, running 10x
