AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical company where we not only focus on the discovery, development and delivery of life-saving medicines to our patients but believe in sustainability and are determined to minimise the impact of our work on the environment. We are proud to be a great place to work and have a culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. We empower our colleagues to express diverse perspectives and at the same time feel valued, respected and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
Pharmaceutical Technology & Development:
Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) are the bridge, which turns brilliant science into medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices required to support new medicines – from supplies for use in early toxicology studies and clinical trials to developing the technology to ensure drugs can be scaled up for commercial manufacture.
Within PT&D, Chemical Development are responsible for the development of sustainable commercial drug substance processes and are looking for analytical scientists with synthetic Tides (peptides or oligonucleotides) analysis experience to join a vibrant team that will play a key role in the analytical development of new medicinal products. You will be responsible for using science and innovation to deliver analytical knowledge that encompasses understanding of manufacturing processes, control strategy and robustness during the development of early through to late stage products. You will be able to work within cross functional teams, including with Process Chemists, Engineers, Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs), Product Development, Regulatory CMC, Quality Assurance and Supply Chain.
As part of a global company with a focus on developing its people, you will have the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally while helping to deliver innovative medicines across the globe.
We now have exciting opportunities for a Scientist – Tides (synthetic peptides or oligonucleotides) API in our growing analytical chemistry development teams. If you have experience in the analysis of either modality e.g., only peptides analysis or only oligonucleotide analysis or similar modalities, you are encouraged to apply.
Key responsibilities:
As a Tides analytical chemist working closely with process chemists, engineers, project managers and other scientists, you will contribute to pharmaceutical development programmes for Tide APIs, supporting project progression through late clinical development and launch. Your role will involve:
Development of robust analytical methodologies supporting the development of synthetic Tides routes and processes and the release and stability analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients
Providing technical support to the manufacture of Tides related starting materials and active pharmaceutical ingredient for clinical use
Planning and execution of lab-based experimental work in accordance with project timelines
Interpreting analytical data and drawing reliable conclusions and recommendations to influence future work
Identifying and solving potential analytical project issues
Application of technical knowledge to improvement projects and the evaluation of state of the art technologies
Utilising specialist scientific and/or technology networks within PT&D and beyond for project development and issue resolution
Collaborating within cross-functional teams, representing own department or area of expertise
Management of own work to achieve drug and improvement project targets in a timely fashion and to agreed quality standards by applying technical knowledge and expertise
Presentation of information for discussion at team meetings
Liaising with colleagues from other disciplines with the purpose of discussing project-related matters, sharing experiences and reporting progress
Ensuring that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
A degree (BSc, MSc or equivalent) in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry (2:1 or higher)
Degree course must include significant synthetic organic and analytical chemistry content
Knowledge and practical experience across a range of analytical techniques. Particularly LC-MS analysis of complex synthetic molecules.
Strong problem-solving skills, underpinned by strong practical laboratory experience
Experience of working collaboratively within a mixed skill technical team and ability to develop and utilise networks
Ability to communicate complex scientific information in a clear, concise and understandable way
Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience
