About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Project Control Lead to work within the capital projects team at our Macclesfield Campus. The Campus is an essential part of AstraZeneca’s UK Operation and the 2nd largest operational site within the company’s global network. It is approx. 100 acres with around 4500 people working on site. The site is unique in the AstraZeneca network having Operations, R&D, G&A, IT and others on its site. Facility Management are one of the main teams on site and part of this team is Campus Project Solutions (CPS), who deliver engineering capital projects for all the campus residents.
Typically, the team deliver around 60 projects a year ranging in value from £10k’s up to £10M, from refurbishment of carparks to new buildings, from installation of a new heat exchanger to complex Autoclaves, from packaging conveyors to complex tablet packing lines, from office refurbishment to Laboratory upgrades, from plant room pumps & valves to Aseptic HVAC & particle monitoring – basically any minor capital project the campus demands we deliver it. The team consists of Engineering Leadership, Project Managers and Project Engineers, Project Control, Validation and Commissioning and Construction Management and Supervision. The CPS team is approximately 50 direct colleagues and up to 150 people in our partner and term supplier organisations who we collaborate closely with and all are dedicated to delivering the best possible outcome for our customers exceeding key Time, Cost and Quality KPI’s.
This is an exciting new role that will require you to work cross functionally and engage with people from different areas of the business and functions. You’ll need to have an excellent knowledge of project processes and procedures, financial guidelines and planning strategy and experience of leading a project control team.
What you'll do
In this role you will implement, maintain and ensure adherence to the project controls processes for a portfolio of projects, whilst liaising with the Service Manager to develop the project controls service delivery for projects.
You will manage our project controls team, comprised of Quantity Surveyors and Planners – including staff and third party resource – ensuring a balanced resource based on portfolio requirements including recruitment and resource allocation to projects. This will include leading team and individual progress meetings, as well as mentoring and developing the team.
You’ll be responsible for producing monthly commercial and planning/resourcing reports, conducting and reviewing feasibility level estimates and programmes for our future project portfolio and auditing projects as required by the project process. You will own and maintain financial reporting documents and software, and project controls management systems.
On complex projects you will undertake project quantity surveying and/or planning services, including cost reporting, cashflow forecasting and contract administration.
The Project Controls Lead role also encompasses the contract management of suppliers, being the single point of contact for AZ procurement and advising on procurement and contractual methods for projects.
Essential Requirements
Strong communication and influencing skills
Proven experience in project controls
Degree qualified in either Quantity Surveying or project controls
Experience working within the pharmaceuticals industry
Knowledge of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
Experience in commercial and project software systems
Experience in various forms of construction contract, including NEC4
Desirable Requirements
Professional Registration with an accredited Institution, such as RICS APM, PMI, PRINCE2, or equivalent qualification as a project practitioner
Knowledge of AstraZeneca business would be an advantage
