What you’ll do

AstraZeneca is seeking a International Medical Director with oncology expertise and a passion for end-user focused solutions to work to lead activities in GI.

This role will require matrix leadership and broad internal cross-functional collaboration with multiple global, regional and local teams. Based on a scientific understanding of the disease area, unmet medical needs, treatment options and medical issues, you will enable the organization to help develop tailored medical solutions.

As the International Medical Lead you will play a key role in the development of medical strategy and execution of key deliverables to support the launch and lifecycle management across the international region and to support key markets as they establish and grow in GI cancers.

Therefore it is critical that the International Medical Director, will be a strong integrator, with demonstrated capability to build networks, lead without authority and to bring together cross functional teams to develop and implement projects delivering end-user focused solutions. Good project management skills is also a must.

An another important element of this role is therefore to develop strategic and long-term partnerships with relevant internal and external partners

Locations: Zug, Switzerland, Singapore or AZ International office locations

  • Design the International medical strategies for GI as well as co-create the regional brand strategy together with the commercial lead ensuring the commercial and medical strategies are fully aligned on key objectives.

  • Lead and coordinate the prelaunch/launch planning and activities across International for GI & Bladder for the region

  • Support the key countries and drive effective execution of the launch plans

  • Mentor and support local markets capability-building

  • Drive close collaboration with global and regional teams to keep informed on latest strategies and priorities

  • Provide medical expertise and advice where required and stay up-to-date on the latest scientific, medical and competitor developments relevant indications

  • Develop and manage relationships with the relevant key external experts in the region

  • Oversee above-country projects including evidence generation, external medical education and insight gathering

  • Ensure compliance with AZ Policies and Standards with special emphasis on Code of Conduct, Ethical Interaction Policy and Standards, Privacy (Patient Group interactions) and Procurement (engagement of third parties)

Essential for the role

  • You have an advance degree preferably, a PhD in a scientific field or MD

  • Proven 3+ years experience in medical affairs including leadership experience of strategic medical planning, launch planning and execution

  • Extensive experience in collaboration with external parties and managing cross-functional and cross-cultural teams

  • Solid business understanding and foresight

  • Knowledge of the regulatory and compliance framework in which we operate
