Site description
Granta Park, Cambridge (UK), one of over 400 sites here at AstraZeneca, providing an environment where everyone feels comfortable and able to be themselves is at the core of AstraZeneca’s priorities, it’s important to us that you bring your full self to work every day. To help you maintain your best self, here’s a sneak peek into some of the things this site provides for you…Cambridge is one of the most bioscience hotspots in the world and plays a central role in our mission to deliver life-changing medicines to patients. Granta Park has a gym, nursery and central restaurant/coffee place as part of the science park facilities that are accessible to our staff. We also have our own bistro and deli in the AZ buildings. There are regular lunch & learn events including running clubs and after work socials on the last Friday of every month. This is our biggest and most spacious lab site with easy access from all major routes and ample car parking available - come and join us! Please be aware that towards the end of 2022 you will be required to move the our new Cambridge Biomedical Centre.
Business area
In the Oncology Business Unit we relentlessly follow the science, challenging the status quo to deliver more effective treatments to patients in need. Our dedication means we purposefully push back the limits of knowledge to change the practice of medicine. To ensure no patient is left behind, no matter what stage of disease. Fast-paced, it takes agility and responsiveness to stay committed in our pursuit of excellence.
What you'll do
We are seeking a Senior Scientist to help support our therapeutic discovery pipeline as well as develop and implement our next-generation B cell discovery platforms in their application to pre-clinical programs. The successful candidate will add to the team of multidisciplinary and hardworking scientists driven by research at the interface between technology and Biology. You will be a well-organized and a highly productive bench scientist that can craft and complete experiments efficiently, as well as analyse, interpret and present data. The role entails the isolation of antibody for our therapeutic programmes using a range of B-cell technologies such as hybridoma, flow cytometry isolation and NGS of antigen specific B-cells as well as building immune libraries of antibody fragment libraries for in vitro display-based systems (e.g. phage, yeast, mammalian display).
Essential for the role
A Ph.D level scientist with post-doctoral experience, or Batchelor’s degree with equivalent experience in molecular biology, screening and sequencing.
Track record of utilisation of general molecular biology skills & techniques (e.g. RT-PCR, Cloning (restriction enzyme and/or assembly methodologies), Sanger sequencing/analysis) ideally in a recombinant antibody setting.
Experience with working with B-cell antibody discovery technologies (e.g. hybridoma, FACS based methods, etc.), and/or in vitro display technologies (e.g. phage, ribosome, yeast, mammalian display).
Ability to complete experiments, develop assays, optimize protocols, and interpret experimental results
Strong communication and an ability to learn and adopt new technologies quickly
Desirable for the role
Using automation for high-throughput isolation of antibodies/antibody genes
Experience with next-generation sequencing, flow-cytometry/FACS, ideally for single and bulk antigen specific B-cell sorting & population analysis
Experience of one or more of the following techniques: Emulsion/Droplet RT-PCR single cell RT-PCR, Immune cell scRNAseq & analysis, NGS library generation, sequencing & analysis
Experience in the generation selection & screening of Immune (Antibody V-gene) libraries
Basic biochemical screening assay skills e.g. ELISA, cell based binding assays (e.g. Mirrorball, ELISA, etc.), HTRF binding assays
Hands on microfluidic droplet generation
Competitive salary package and benefits
