An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join our Global Indirect Tax team as an Indirect Tax Manager. Role responsibilities:
In this role, you will be:
Supporting the development, implementation and delivery of AstraZeneca’s global indirect tax compliance and risk management strategies to deliver sustainable value.
Supporting AstraZeneca in meeting its global indirect tax compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions. Continuously assessing and challenging that appropriate controls and processes are in place to manage indirect tax risk.
Driving efficiencies in indirect tax processes whilst optimising cash-flow/balance sheet positions.
Partnering with the wider business to enhance and develop successful long-term relationships, through the provision of timely, appropriate, and commercial indirect tax advice which supports the delivery of business objectives.
Supporting AstraZeneca with Business Development and M&A opportunities including advising on VAT clauses in commercial contracts.
Continuous review of AstraZeneca’s structure and business model to identify opportunities and ideas for improvement, alongside building awareness of indirect tax around the organisation.
Supporting the business with managing indirect tax audits and controversy matters across the business, alongside maintaining good relationships with tax authorities and external advisors.
Initiate and lead on ad hoc indirect tax projects e.g. overseas VAT refund claims.
Contributing to the development of AstraZeneca’s wider tax function, including the coaching and development of more junior members of the team and providing in-house VAT training across the business.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Significant VAT compliance and advisory experience with a background obtained in a recognised accounting firm, a large corporate organisation or from within HMRC. You will either have a professional qualification (e.g. CTA) or have full HMRC training.
Extensive experience leading/managing complex VAT audits (whether UK or overseas) and advising large multi-national organisations on their indirect tax affairs.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and collaboration skills.
Ability and flexibility to work well under tight deadlines and multi-task
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
High degree of attention to detail and professional scepticism.
Ability to adjust priorities and manage time appropriately in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across multiple teams both within the UK and overseas
Collaborative team player with the ability to foster good working relationships with external advisors and tax authorities.
Experience managing a team.
