What you’ll do
We are looking for a laboratory-based scientist working within the Neuroscience Discovery group. You will have responsibility for delivering a range of drug discovery and development assays and activities, both cell-based and behavioural, to support the preclinical project portfolio across the areas of neurodegeneration and pain. You will also contribute towards the identification and validation of novel drug targets.
Qualifications
- PhD in Neuroscience or related fields or master’s degree with extensive laboratory experience and knowledge of the drug discovery process
- A well-developed understanding and working application of mechanisms of pain or neurodegeneration with relevant cellular biology and in vivo pharmacology expertise
- Able to plan, design and implement a wide range of cell-based and/or behavioural experiments
- Experience in culturing and utilizing cell lines
- Hands-on experience in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry techniques
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with a wide range of cellular and biochemical assays such as reporter assays, immunofluorescence, western blotting, HTRF, AlphaLISA, Mesoscale, ELISAs, or qPCR
- Experience in culturing human iPSC-derived neuronal/glial cells, and/or primary rodent neuronal/glial cells
- Experience in gene delivery (transient transfection, viral transduction) and/or knockdown/CRISPR-knockout
- Experience in running in vivo behavioural assessments and/or inflammatory and neuropathic pain assays
- Previous experience in preclinical drug discovery (academia or pharma) or working in a laboratory-based CRO role would be ideal
- Understanding of the pharmacological analysis, affinity, and drug potency to aid compound selection
- Good organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Able to work both on a team and independently within a matrix project team
- Experience in making networks - establishing internal collaborations, and in identifying and setting up external collaborations
- Experience in the design and execution of in vitro and/or in vivo/ex vivo studies with external vendors/CROs to support a project
