We are seeking a passionate Senior Scientist to embed themselves into our Cell Engineering team. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a fast-growing team within a vibrant environment focused on modelling complex diseases in vitro using the most advanced genome engineering methods.
What you'll do
You’ll focus on applying genome engineering methods to characterise the functional consequences of genetic variants and variants of uncertain significance at scale, with the aim of advancing our understanding of complex human disease.
This is a laboratory-based role, where you will design and lead experiments to progress our drug discovery pipeline. As part of our innovative team, you will also be supported and encouraged to contribute to the improvement of current genome engineering technologies. You will be comfortable working as part of a cross functional team to interpret data and determine next steps to drive projects forwards. You’ll interact with colleagues across our global organization and with high profile external collaborators. You’ll have the opportunity to maintain scientific excellence, presenting data to key collaborators and colleagues internally and at external conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Working within AstraZeneca’s Discovery Sciences unit, you’ll be joining a community of scientists with broad technological expertise dedicated to drug discovery.

Essential Criteria
- PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics or equivalent level of experience within academia or industry
- Significant expertise in molecular biology for genome engineering applications, including vector design, cloning and propagation
- Expertise in CRISPR-based insertion of large genetic cargo
- Competent in the practical application and delivery of genome engineering techniques including CRISPR, viral delivery (including lentivirus and AAV) and transposons
- Strong experimental design and problem-solving skills
- Scientific excellence as shown by previous work, publication history and references from scientific mentors
- Excellent team working, communication and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of specialisms, culture and expertise
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in diverse variant library design, cloning and propagation
- Experience in Next Generation Sequencing
- Creating and/or working with complex cell models of human disease
