Role Description
The Senior Automation Engineer position supports the R&D organization with a focus on the design, construction, and data management of robotics and high-throughput systems that drive efficiency, inform decisions and enable discovery. This is a laboratory based role for automation engineers looking to expand and deepen their existing technical skills and using those skills to build and expand the team’s capabilities.
Typical Accountabilities
Consistently build innovative solutions that enable the integration of high-throughput and traditional bench-scale or manufacturing systems
Lead scientific team efforts to establish world-class automation capabilities
Establishes working relationships and credibility outside the company
Independently creates, modifies and troubleshoots complex laboratory robotic/automation scripts.
Anticipates and resolves priority conflicts.
Train or mentor engineers or scientists
Education, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential
BSc in a relevant scientific/engineering subject area (biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemistry, molecular biology, robotics, etc.) OR Relevant work experience with laboratory robotics and automation.
Demonstrated independent proficiency in script/method writing for at least 1 liquid handling robotics instruments (i.e. Hamilton Robotics, Tecan EVO, Sartorius Ambr, etc.) and exposure to high throughput analytics (i.e multimode plate readers, LabChip GX, Unchained labs, etc.) and demonstrated competency in enabling laboratory automation tools (Capper/decappers, plate seal/peel, tube labelers, automated barcode readers) is essential.
Demonstrated ability to learn new skill as necessary for the evolving role
Good verbal and written communication skills
Desirable
Demonstrated capability with a coding language (Python, C#, etc.) or database management (SQL, NoSQL, etc.) to maintain or create new tools is a plus.
Influences scientific thinking and direction of projects especially in the automation fields
Participates and influences external communication and technology innovation
Experience implementing 3D printing solutions.
