Senior Global Medical Affairs Leader - Breast: Transform Oncology Care and Impact Lives

Join our Oncology Business Unit as a Senior Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL) and be part of a high-performing team that's changing the practice of medicine and improving the patient experience through generating and communicating compelling medical evidence.

Located in Cambridge or Gaithersburg, you'll be reporting to the Head of ADC & IO, Breast Cancer Franchise. As an experienced medical leader, you'll lead the medical strategy development and execution of key deliverables to further develop multiple identified positive indications, build associated medical plans, enable the launch of assets/brands, and find opportunities to extend the lifecycle management of brands globally. You'll work across multiple internal and external collaborators, contributing to key decisions in brand marketing direction and research and development.

In this role, you'll be responsible for leading the global strategy from an Oncology brand medical perspective across multiple indications within the Tumor area. You'll work closely with colleagues in various functions, such as Markets, OBU-Medical (Publications, Global Medical Information, RWE, Medical Excellence), Late and Early-Stage Development (Oncology R&D), Global Marketing, Global Strategy, Regulatory Affairs, Payer, Health Outcomes, and others.

Typical accountabilities

    Leads on the global strategy from Oncology brand medical perspective across multiple indications within the Tumor area

      Will work across Tumor areas at a brand/asset level to ensure tumor and brand strategies align to ensure the maximum medical impact

        Will be a key member of the Tumor Global Medical Senior Leadership Team, shaping tumor level strategy and priorities

          Responsible for ensuring brands/multiple indications within area of responsibility, have strategic medical plans in place to ensure appropriate financial and resource planning both within the direct remit of accountability but also ensuring broader resources across the medical organisation (globally and in market) are in place. Strategic medical plans will ladder up to overarching brand strategic plans.

            Will have Medical accountability for strategic external partnerships and alliances management for the development and launch of brands

              Leads and is accountable for the development and execution of the asset specific medical tactical plan aligned to strategy including evidence generation, scientific communications, interactions with global external experts, diagnostics strategy and patient centric activities

                Is accountable for setting the Real World Evidence and External KEE engagement strategies to establish confidence in our brands and their impact on patients

                  Leads the Tumor/Asset Global Medical Team (GMT) engaging and influencing in market medical teams and of prioritized launch market teams to ensure that relevant global and in market insights are used to inform product development, brand strategies and launch plans

                    If appointed, will represent medical at a Global Product Team level on key decisions regarding Asset direction/strategy and prioritisation, will act as both a key influencer and decision maker

                      Will engage with multiple senior stakeholders including SET level executives to provide insights, data, launch plans and recommendations that will influence global brand decisions

                        Will represent AstraZeneca at a Global level as key external events, congresses, scientific symposia’s etc and will liaise with and external stakeholders to enhance the scientific and clinical understanding of brand/asset in relation to the tumor/tumor type and clinical landscape

                          Partners closely with colleagues in the Markets, OBU-Medical (Publications, Global Medical Information, RWE, Medical Excellence), Late and Early-Stage Development (Oncology R&D), Global Marketing, Global Strategy, Regulatory Affairs, Payer, Health Outcomes and other key functions, and helps build alignment on key initiatives including optimal approach to data generation, communication and supporting access

                            Act as (or delegate to another GMAL on the team) Medical Study lead for GMA-sponsored Tumor/brand/asset-multi-indication cancer studies

                              Providing medical leadership to support to Health Authority (HA) and Investigational Review Board (IRB) regulatory interactions and to Clinical Research Organization (CRO) in charge of study execution

                                Leads or coordinates a diverse range of initiatives to improve decision making within the marketing, research and development function and other areas that may be applicable. Accountable for building and lead an outstanding team, attracting, engaging and retaining talent for the future, by fostering a culture of inclusion

                                  Provides leadership, coaching, feedforward to teams and individuals to upskill and develop future capabilities in line with AstraZeneca’s commitment to a culture of performance development and lifelong learning

                                    Ensures that all Medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AZ standards, standard operating procedures and external regulations

                                    Essential requirements for this role include:
                                    - Minimum of Master’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent medical/scientific qualifications (MD preferred)
                                    - Minimum 8 years of senior leadership/specialized experience within pharma/life sciences and/or medical experience
                                    - Ability to evaluate, interpret and present highly complex data for a series of studies
                                    - Ability to lead cross-functional working groups and teams within a complex matrix organization
                                    - Significant understanding of the overall drug development process and branding medical drugs
                                    - Extensive experience in stakeholder management & situational leadership
                                    - Experience in financial and resource planning and management

                                    Desirable requirements:
                                    - Experience in drug development and oncology (strong preference)
                                    - Breast Cancer experience
                                    - Country launch experience as well as global experience
                                    - Alliance management experience
