The role is based in our new pioneering Discovery Centre (DISC) located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This newly purpose-built building that will bring together the company’s research and development activity in a pioneering strategic R&D centre and global corporate headquarters. The building has been designed with the open architecture reflecting AstraZeneca’s approach to research. Open laboratories and glass walls will enable new ways of working across teams, whilst a central courtyard will put science on full display.

What you'll do
We are seeking a highly motivated and independent Senior Scientist to join the Affinity Reagents Team, part of Discovery Platforms within Biologics Engineering. You will play a key role utilising and developing our B cell platform, to deliver high quality novel reagents, supporting the progression of diverse discovery pipeline projects in a range of therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will add to a team of multidisciplinary and passionate scientists excited by innovative research.
Essential for the role
PhD in immunology, molecular / cell biology or related discipline, or BSc with significant relevant lab-based experience
Ability to independently design and execute diverse in vivo antibody discovery campaigns, including immunisation and screening strategies
Experience and track-record working with flow cytometry and/or FACS, (ideally immune cells)
Strong molecular biology (e.g., PCR, RT-PCR, ligation-dependent and independent cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, Sanger sequencing/analysis)
Experience with antibody screening and characterisation methods (e.g. ELISA, SPR, BLI or flow cytometry)
Solid theoretical knowledge of antibody sequence analysis (e.g. annotation, clustering)
Ability to optimize protocols, troubleshoot, interpret experimental results and maintain accurate, high quality and up-to-date records
Ability to work collaboratively in order to achieve objectives, as demonstrated by publications
Documented proficiency in the English language, both writing and speaking
Desirable for the role
Experience with in vitro display and/or antibody engineering
Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS)
Experience of project management, working in a matrix environment and outsourcing
